Hey again, been a while.
Long story short, as it is a long story. Hector, I will tag him later, and I worked a deal for a seibon cf hood and managed (no small task) to get the thing from pheinox to woodland (a fair distance). I have the hood mounted and it looks just great.
Now for the question. It does seem to bow a bit to the center of the hood and dip down on both front and rear. That said the lines are great and seibon did a good job. But the question... do the hydraulic hood arms need to be removed for the fact that cf is not as strong as aluminum. Am I causing damage just by have the those arms on still? And btw dont belive the lies the seibon hood has real 'looking' vents but they are not vents....
Thank you all

Yea u can’t use those arms. It bows the hood. But I heard u can just use one. I have a cf hood and I don’t use the arms I did at first but people say also that it can possibly break it

If you can use one then wouldn't it just bow one side lol ?? But regardless thank you for the input. I may aswell pull them off as I'm not really working under the hood all that much to begin with

Wouldn’t the hydraulic arms push the outside edges up? That’s the reverse of what OP is talking about.

Easier thing to do is disconnect them and see what happens.

We removed the arms but unfortunately the hood still bows and sometimes its a pain to use a prop rod. We were given a solution but have not tried it yet.

I have the SBM CF hood and it didnt have any bow at all with both Shocks on until 4-5 months later. I have disconnected both and the bow has subsided and is back to its original state. Best to not use the hood shocks.

Are there any aftermarket hood shocks made specifically for CF hoods?

This is what I do. I leave one arm attached at the bottom only in the engine bay. I lay it down. Then when I open the hood I attached without fastening the top to use it as a hood prop. When I'm done it pops off easily and I lay it back down in the engine bay.

I saw an ad for support struts for cf hoods but, unfortunately I can't find it. Someone does make it.

I’m testing out struts below some time next week just installed a few hoods this week local in NY. Follow my IG for more info NY1stinger and our fave book Kia stinger alliance.

Lightweight Hood Struts, importshark.com

This looks very promising and I'll definitely be following. I think I did see some vids of you guys on the Alliance facebook page.

Yup that was us I’m going to see if I do another live Wednesday when I get my hood and another one for one of the guys. Make sure you come to the car show on April in CT.

Rentschler Field, it's gonna be a great showing, can't wait.

@NYdito knows his stuff. I’m going to get the struts from ImportShark due to his recommendation.

$75 for struts is ludicrous. All you need are the dimensions and lift force used. Any replacement matching that will suffice. For example something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Apexstone-St...ZERBMRSXBTN&psc=1&refRID=QA0Y4DBCCZERBMRSXBTN

Finding the correct lift force is crucial however else you'd run into the same issues as the OEM ones.
Don’t buy it simple as that. Why buy a 50k car and install a $12 hold your new 1k hood that’s just me thinking. But for sure if you get a cheaper price for something that works please share.

Just need the specs is all. I'm the first one to pint out when someone is going cheap, but at the same time spending 10X more is just as silly.

I get you trust me I’m all about deals but because of comments like that is that a lot of manufacturers don’t want to invest in our platform.

Yup I’m sure that’s the first thing a potential manufacturer would do before development. Troll the forums and only build parts for cars that the owners will pay 10X fair value. I can just hear the speech in the boardroom “Gentleman we will insure maximum profit through forum trolling prior to development”.:rofl:

I guess that’s a Canada thing lol.
