Canadian maintenance schedule

I recently did a round trip of 227 kms. Maybe 5 kms of that were city, calm driving.

I re-filled to full to do the math on the fuel used. OH, Using 87 octane in last two tanks for reference and comparing... I'm switching back to premium. Will do the same round trip to compare. I think a mix of Pioneer and Costco 87 was in the tank. (likely stick to Costco mostly)

The Temp was Cold. I forget. around zero (freezing). It was this past Friday from Bowmanville to Belleville Casino for Brunch and Back (ha, and we played only 10 slots and won 35 and got out of there before we lost it), so we got our gas a few bucks to spare.. Cheap lunch.

My trip / fuel econo gauge thing said, by the time I got back, it came down to 9.3L /100kms... I did the math and it was correct.

I used approx. 21L. It takes a while for the system to calculate and your actual economy to be registered, but it seems it caught up to it by the time I got back. I don't know why it can't give that figure within 5 or 15 mins from setting it on cruise. It seems it Does Not have an "instant" or "current" fuel economy option to select.
it always starts high and slowly comes down to what you're doing. It took almost two hours to go from 10.5 to 10 to 9.9 to 9.8, 9.7, 9.6....until it reached 9.3 very close to home.

I assume since I only have 8K kms on it, and it's cold out, the hwy cruising consumption can get under 9.0L /100 kms when engine is broken in a wee bit more and temps are above 10 degrees... I hope. Would be nice.
I don't think it would have gone lower than that. Maybe .1 at best more, cause I did actually use 9.3L /100kms.
Odd why it can't conclude the rate of consumption faster.
My 2011 Santa fe had option to see current mpg, as did my previous 2008 Impala.

Anyone have any fuel ratings for pure steady hwy from their Stinger ?

Good to hear your experience with a relatively low mileage car. Mine has around 30K (second owner; got the car at 22K), the lowest I hit while driving on the highway was around 8.8L/100Km. I haven't taken the car out for long drives yet but will try out this summer (hoping to do a 700km round trip).

I am currently using Petro Canada 87 Octane to compare with Costco 87 and Costco 91.

Looks like things done changed. Well the 2020 manual, anyway. Now it states we should change oil every 5000km:

Damn, 5000km seems like overkill unless Kia Canada knows something we don’t, esp since there should tons of oil capacity to absorb dirt with a 7.2L full volume per change. Maybe it’s the turbos that need more frequent changes bc in my old 2005 Honda Civic, that crankcase took 3.7L only and the factory change interval was 8,000km!

I hope it's not something they know that we don't. In any case, I will be following this schedule. It was in my book, so I have no excuse really

IIRC, the manual does not require synthetic. I know conventional oil (and engines) have improved over the years, but maybe the shorter intervals are on the premise of using conventional oil and expecting it to need sooner changeouts.

IIRC they use a blend, (vs 100% sync) I'm going 100% sync and shorter interval - oil changes are cheap, and no harm will come from doing them often (plus I think all KIA dealerships use Castrol oil, of which I have never been a fan, for no logical reason)

Nothing changed
You are looking at the SEVERE duty schedule which is fr the driving conditions listed in the right most column.

This is the same for all years to my knowledge.

Yeah, you are correct, it's for conventional oil. As another Stinger friend says, never hurts to change more often, but this one is a bit more involved to do DIY in terms of removing belly pans and dealing w the cartridge filter in the V6 vs. a spin-on

Before I purchased, I read around here that severe meant 6000km between changes, although that could have been a rough conversion from miles

I noticed that reading mine this week.

Edit to add: '18 and '19 manuals did state 6000KM on severe usage intervals. 5K is new for 2020.

Interesting. This reminds me of another car I once owned. I had a 2011 WRX, and even though the manual said one thing, I had gotten mail that they changed the interval to every 5000km. They said it was due to some kind of buildup that would be avoided with more changes.

"Severe" driving conditions has apparently been changed for you Canucks. Kia's warranty, Kia's conditions. I wouldn't mess with it.

Here, in Utah, we have "severe" driving conditions while they are salting the roads in winter. A few rainfalls and it's gone. So, for c. nine months out of the year we are not severe driving conditions. I still change out my oil (not synthetic) every c. 4K miles.

Funny, because us Canuckleheads have a shorter warranty period AND higher maintenance standards. Perhaps the winters here are especially rough, idk

I think you're just used to them. Weather up there is nightmare territory. Believe.

We have two seasons in Canada: Winter, and Road Construction

We had four days of snow in Windsor. Hell I cut my grass first week of April. We don’t get harsh winters much anymore....though we have. I following an 8000km oil change program. I drive quite a bit for work usually turning cars every 4 years with 200,000km on the clock and never had an issue running until the oil change indicator was down under 10% life left. Sometimes that was over 10,000. Not experienced an engine issue yet on any ford/gm/Honda/Kia/dodge I’ve owned yet.
