3.3TT BMS Stinger Intake System

Part of the reason the factory intake is so restrictive is because it's designed to block the turbo noises. So when you open up flow you're going to get more sound. Most people like the sound anyway. :) But I suppose that is a trade off if you don't.
Do you or anyone out there have any IATs for your intake compared to say stock or stock with K&N droppings. Thanks

My friends BMS intakes & almost everyone I know with true shielded intakes run about the same temp as the stock airboxes. They are all within a few degrees of each other so the added benefit of significantly more airflow considerably outweigh a couple degrees cooler IAT. That’s why most shielded intakes make 15-25whp over stock or k&n dropins.

Does anyone know if an AEM DryFlow round filter with a 5 inch base/top fits with this intake setup? The height and flange seem the same as the KNNs.

Here are the specs:
AEM 21-2036DK Universal DryFlow Clamp-On Air Filter: Round Straight; 3 in (76 mm) Flange ID; 6.5 in (165 mm) Height; 5 in (127 mm) Base; 5 in (127 mm) Top

The KNN filters the BMS intakes come with with have a 4.5 inch base and 3.5 inch top. Not sure how tight the fit is with the airbox setup.

Thank you,

Rafael

I have an IAT log from the stock airbox from a hot summer day (108F) in Tucson. Car was parked in direct sunlight for ~8hrs at these temps. For the Stock airbox, the average delta between Average IAT vs Ambient temp was 22.5 degrees.

Highest IAT recorded on the stock airbox was 142F (against a 108F ambient)

The graph plots time (in seconds) across the bottom, vs speed, IAT, Ambient Temp, and the IAT-Ambient Delta. Total commute is about 45 minutes for the plot.

That data is extremely alarming - almost indicative that any form of heat shielding from the engine is a must for cooler IAT results.

Keep in mind it’s hot here in Tucson during the summer. I plan to make more plots as it cools down to more normal temps.

Also, I should have mentioned that those numbers also came from my car after it was baking all day in the sun at those temps. It was my drive home from work.

It seems to work very well for me , as I got 20,300 k on my car right now and put new k&n fliters after 15 k , so I can clean the older one s for the next filter change lol

Lol smart man

Just installed mine today. Didn’t like that the filters/heat shield rubbed on the bottom of the strut tower braces but I can live with it. They made the car sound amazing. Here is a sound clip if anyone wants to here what it sounds like installed.

I think you just need to mess with adjusting things a little bit. Its normal for the top rubber portion of the filter to contact the brace but not the heat shield.

On another note I've been thinking of buying some rubber trim to run along the edge of the heat shield on mine.

I tried to loosen up the hose clamps and wiggle it, I think my heat shield may be a little bent. I also had a problem with tube brackets being cross threaded. I had to carefully work the bolt back and forth from the rear using vice grips in order to fix both of them. It didn’t appear to be caused by the powder coating either. I didn’t feel like reinstalling all of the OEM parts and sending the tubes back so I just fixed it myself.

I was also contemplating doing this. I wonder how much room is between the heat shield and the hood? I guess if it doesn't quite reach it's still better than nothing.

Any idea when they will be back in stock? Website says "early September" is that still accurate?

ordered mine a few weeks ago and still have not gotten them apparently they outta stock :(
