• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

2019 Map Update now available online

what country are you in? I have the latest standard as well in the US, and the latest from october actually added several new "sounds of nature" like experience the universe, which i actually really like.

Im in Australia

Had my car in at Kia for its 60k service i asked about the new nav update. I have always got a free update once a year from them. I was told it had expired and i would be up for $300! I was also told it now only applies to 2019 or newer models, mine is a My 2018. Not amused.
Maybe have a look here: Notice | Official Kia Navigation Update Website
It used to be dealer only update in the EU as well but ever since last year we can do our own updates using software from that website.
When I go to Australia - list of eligible vehicles it includes Stinger 2018 - 2022.

Just updated mine (Standard Gen 5 non widescreen) with Dec 2022. They seemed to have removed the "sounds of nature" feature on this latest update for the non-widescreens.

It didn't come with that feature originally, Kia threw it in when they updated to the purple theme. So maybe they decided to take it away. I have only ever used it once anyway to go through the sounds and that's it. I have never used that feature ever again.

Would like to hear from other Aussies who have updated their standard gen 5 non-widescreen to this Dec 2022 update. Is your "Sounds of Nature" feature missing too? Or has it moved somewhere?

Also just saw this disclaimer on the Kia update site:

"This update provides Map data as well as software that may add new features or remove others, which may change the appearence of the user interface or the way you use it."

Actually I meant fullscreen i.e. map displays end to end but that's not the case for me.
Aaah, roger. It has changed in that it uses the full screen, but it runs in split screen. If you're listening to music that takes up one part, and the map takes up the other for example. You can swap between the two also, so your map is larger, or the music app is larger. I quite like it.

Better off without it. Good way to fall asleep on a drive.

Sounds like dealer BS to me, just DIY.

So this update has removed the premium sound options (On Stage, Audience, Reference) from the audio settings, and kept them only on the actual music playback screen of whatever you're listening to. To adjust this setting for Android Auto (where I listen to Spotify), I needed to stream from Bluetooth first, then change the audio setting from there, then switch back to AA (only found this by reading the updated help, using a QR code shown on the screen). Quite a lot of farting about. I have a shortcut to disable these audio settings when I inevitably experience silence, but this will now no longer works. Next time this happens, I guess I'll be stuck with silence for the rest of the drive. Annoying.

The screen brightness and contrast on the surround/front/rear cameras also seems a bit messed up.

The premium sound options were moved on the last update. I complained about this to Kia and they basically told me to live with it.
Seems they didn't fix it with this update.
Honestly, every single update in the past 2 years has ruined some function and brought nothing worth using. Only EV shit for gasoline cars. A bunch of cretins!

Yeah, it was in both places in my last version, but now it's only in (some of) the playback screens. I noticed some differences in the camera settings screen, and there's a clock showing on top of the camera view now (why?) so nothing too compelling in this update so far. Still has those stupid bulbs in the radio.

Ah, ok, so maybe they are testing these "innovations" on the EU market first because we got the clock on the camera view and the removal of the sound options in a December update.

We only get one update a year, and we usually get a preview of the badness we can look forward to next by looking at the Euro and US discussions elsewhere here. I keep hoping for a map update that removes a speed camera near my house that was removed eight years ago. Nope. Got warned about it again this evening with this update

so strange, we lost the nixie tubes in the radio over 3 updates ago... I actually liked them and want them back even though we never listen to the radio.. lol

Apparently the update is only available for models with the 8" screen at the moment while those on the 10" screen will have to wait a couple more weeks for it to be available. Was talking to Kia head office in NZ today who gave me this information.

That explains why! Thanks!
