• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

2019 Map Update now available online

I am not sure that I will ever use those new background sound affects - maybe it will be useful to calm nervous passengers one day.
Just what you need is calming, soothing sounds to assist in putting you to sleep while driving...:rofl::rofl:

I did night in basement carpark, set brightness and contrast to max. Seems to make a big difference.
Just set my night brightness to max. (+5) & yes it does make a big difference.

Downloaded and successfully updated. Extra function buttons and a few bells and whistles added. Real test will be when I approach the intersection where a red light camera was removed over 6 years ago.....is it still "there"?
Well that camera is still there according to maps. If approaching a fixed camera and over speed the gps speed display turns orange/red.

Not sure if it's my imagination - but the 360 camera seems to be brighter now since updating?
Yeah I thought it looked different too. Also be a bit careful because it’s possible the calibration is off slightly. My rear camera when I reverse out of my garage shows the projected lines with me coming off the driveway, but the side camera and more importantly the mirror show that I’m clearly on the driveway and will remain that way if I maintain the line. It’s only off slightly but it wasn’t like it pre update.

Actually now you mention it - I was wondering if the update had changed mine too slightly. But I can't be sure if it was actually aligned like that before.

I believe the dealers can adjust the software calibration/alignment.

No issues with update haven't done it yet lol. The dealer has the password and has done the last two. Looks like another trip to Kia. Last time they weren't forth coming in indulging the password.

You don't need a password any more, as the whole process and the software needed has been updated and is about ten times easier. In fact, we can't even download the old software to update if we wanted to: it's been pulled from the old site and customer logins to the website removed.

So did a bit of tinkering today and noticed some changes in the updated version. On the old version when you hit the Nav button on screen or on the dash it took you to a list of options, one of which was Emergency. That option gave you your current gps coordinates in Lat & Long, plus street, suburb etc. It was a handy little feature if you ever broke down or had to call 000 and give your exact location. This option no longer exists. There is an option now called Coordinates, but when you go into it, it wants you to manually enter coordinates, I’m assuming to search for something. It doesn’t actually tell you where you are.
Also in the POI Category on the old version there was an option for police stations which showed exactly that, click on the one you want and drive to it. The new version still had the police station option but it now includes a whole bunch of security companies, and anything else it finds that has security or investigation in the name. Still shows police stations but you need to wade through the irrelevant crap to find them.
New version also now has an option for Roadside Assistance but has no links to Kia Roadside assist, and instead just lists mechanics and tow companies that are nearby. Pointless giving directions to drive to a tow company if you’ve broken down.
Also noticed tonight the Primary School around the corner from my parent’s house which has been there for well over 50 years doesn’t exist on the map, but it lists 2 schools in neighbouring streets that have never existed ever. Got no idea where they’re pulling map data from but there’s issues with it.

Had a bit more of a look this morning. Same thing with the hospitals tab on the POI Category. Lists anything remotely medical rather than just hospitals so if your driving and an emergency happens and you’re not familiar with the local area good luck wading through the crap to find what you want. I really think they’ve stuffed what was a good feature of the old system. The area I was in this morning the Police Stations tab was coming up with options for electrical companies as well as security companies and the Police Station which was about 2km from where I was, was about the 7th or 8th option on the list. From what I can tell there’s no way to filter these POI Categories either to show what they claim to show.
Also noticed if you connect your phone via Bluetooth the phone icon no longer appears in the top right corner to show it’s connected. Only shows a Bluetooth logo with a music symbol. The phone icon only appears when you actually make a call. It used to show phone, music, and battery charge level. It now only shows them when you make a call. Little changes but it was handy to have the icons on the screen all the time so you knew you were connected and could see what your battery charge was.
The old saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it comes to mind with some of the “updates” on this new version

Maybe they need to update the actual map rather than the extraneous crap that doesn't need updating. (ie removing speed camera locations that have not been there for at least a year.)

Well yeah there’s that too. I’m still scratching my head at them removing a school that was on the old version and then naming two addresses in neighbouring streets as schools even though they’re private houses. It amazes me they can stuff up a map so badly when you consider how many maps are out there that somehow manage to get it right.

I don’t understand this, people here seem to have a new 2020 update, so I went and got my SD card out of my car, installed the new installer software and it’s telling me I have the new version installed already, but I haven’t done an update since last year.
What gives?

I had the same thing. Take the SD card out of your computer and try again.

I did, but you have to select the SD card in the storage option and as soon as you do that, I get the same reply. Are you supposed to format the SD card first?

Simple my ass. This is stupid.

You should be able to store the update on your hard drive. You can't save it directly to the SD card.

sorry, found the issue.

I have only done this the once, but after the software downloaded to my PC - I got the SD card from the car, and inserted it into the PC. The update software was then able to continue with its steps - and I recall that it formatted the SD card and then it extracted and copied the downloaded software onto the SD card. It then told me when it was done, and I unmounted the SD card from the PC and inserted into car.

You then need to go into settings in the car to install the update - and it took approx 8 mins. Good luck!

Installed perfectly. The issue I was having was that I was trying to install the software onto an portable drive that always connected to my pc. I would have thought in this day and age that kia’s software would allow this. But it only wants an actual installed HDD.
The issue with the installer keeping on telling my I already have the new software installed every time I insert the Memory card is an issue they should resolve. Even at the end of the download where it asked you to copy to MC it still won’t do so. I had to delete the old files manually and copy and paste the New ones. Hardly a polished experience.

When I did it with both our cars Cerato and Stinger I already had the SD card connected initially and it said it was already up to date like your own.
So I started again with no SD card connected until download to HDD was complete and I had clicked on copy to SD card or whatever the option is and after doing that I attached the SD card to the PC the software picked up the SD drive as the location and went ahead and copied the new files to the SD card. All worked fine if you don't connect SD card too early.
I agree that the 'already up to date' glitch is one Kia need to address but otherwise very happy to use the software.
In NZ we only had Dealer Login available for the old system so this is freedom from the dealers now.
