JB4 Review

1000 mile update. So far so good. I am using jb4 with BT connect. I have the JB4 set to map 0 (stock tune) when driving to work and around town. When its time to race I set it to map 2. Map 2 awakens the beast. A little background... I currently have the stock plugs gapped at .28, Also running an ethanol blend, about e20. (93 + e85). Everything runs beautifully. When I first started using the jb4, I was running map 1 on the stock gap with 93 octane. I did have small breakups in the lower RPMs on load which was solved by re-gapping. Overall everything is good. the JB connect was perfect. I like the stock tune with an option for kill mode. Oh, and the car loves the e-blend on the stock tune.
Glad to hear things are going well! Are you using iOS or android?

Cool, I'll be picking up my JB4 this morning and have android. Hopefully there aren't any issues with the software on it. I'll report back later with another review.

Best of luck to you! are you going to re-gap the stock plugs or use aftermarket plugs?

I already installed HKS M40iL's (8 heat range) last Tuesday. I only have 92 octane available in my area as well. So it'll be interesting to see any nuances there may be.

you'll be fine then

I'm waiting for some dynos, etc., for different fuel grades. I'm confident the car, with no chip, will adapt and utilize at least up to e20 if not e30. Thanks for the review!

I agree 100%

To help someone understand who doesn't have the JB (me)... Do you change the Map of the JB on your phone? Can this be done while driving?

I see a bluetooth item called the REV3 that seems to make this possible. If someone doesn't have the REV3, how are the maps changed?

The maps are changed with a laptop hooked to the JB4 box via the usb cable. You’ll need to download the software from Burger Motor Sports web page.

Little update on some top end WOT running. For some reason it’s studdering in 6/7 gear at WOT around 5 to 6500 rpm between 110 and 130, but once it shifts into 8 it smooths out. Gotta get some data logs to Terry to see if he can see anything. Running map 2 now full time on 92 octane. Should have my BT rev3 Friday to make logging easier.

Experienced the same exact thing last night. I am running stock plugs gabbed at .28 the stock gap temp may be getting too hot after 3 or 4 gears of straight WOT.

Ya I’m not sure? I have the HKS45IL’s gapped to .024.

So I wonder if this could be an issue caused by 92 octane and not small enough gap (.028)?

FWIW I'm at about 1200 miles of map 2 with no issues. Aslo did a couple of problem free WOT runs a few days ago after installing my exhaust. I'm using 93 and gapped at .025.

What does our resident expert have to say... @KLR STINGER

Well the 6/7 shift under high load is a period of high sustained cylinder pressures. Spark blow out usually happens under transitional pressure increased like matting the throttle from low engine speed, not sustained high RPM load. You really need to be logging a bunch of things like fuel trims, AFR, MAP pressure, Torque demand and torque delivery pids to get a sense of what it happening. not saying its not plug or gap related, but coulde be. Always an option to pull the plugs, read them and adjust gap if it seems appropriate.

The mad scientist has spoken!

Also I think Tork Motorsports found some weird behaviors around those shift points as well that might be attributed to the torque management protocols intervening in the fun. Piggy Backs by their nature are an imperfect solution. While there are good, cheap, fun, they lack the ability to calibrate factory ECU strategies, and you are therefor subject to the ECU doing things in an erratic or unexpected behavior. Full tuning is around the corner, and we will see what these things can really do.
