Car shaking after hooking up JB4

  • Did you separate the coil packs?
  • Did you remove the intake manifold to to the plugs?
  • Did you torque the spark plugs properly?
  • What did you gap the plugs at?
  • Did you ensure that the connections are plugged in correctly?
  • Did you open the JB4 enclosure? If so, any pinched wires/chipsets or did you get it closed back up nicely?
edit: I see you bought a used one....that adds another layer of questions...
Seems like I’m getting MAP code errors and possibly some sensor is messed up? I’ve check all the connections that the JB4 uses and I don’t know what’s messed up

do these power pack wires look right? Is it possible we didn’t put them back right and switched the wires? That would explain the 2 cylinder misfires

Holy f*ck I think that was the issue.

Yeah. I think you had those two cylinder coil packs swapped.

That's generally why I only do one plug/coil at a time. If you gap your spark plugs before you install the set it doesn't take long.

I doubt you hurt anything either. Lesson learned.

Do y’all recommend taking off the intake manifold or trying to replace the spark plugs without removing it? About to install the HKS spark plugs to get ready for JB4 pro(beta). Thanks

You do not need to remove the manifold, or really anything besides the engine cover and coil packs. My recommendation would be to gather your swivels & extensions and tackle the #3 cylinder first (left center when facing the engine bay) so you know you have the hard one out of the way.

For your first time in there, if you can get to that plug in under a half hour, the other two on that bank a half hour, and the three on the other side in a half hour, you're looking at an under two-hour job even with cleanup and taking your time measuring plug gap.

What swivels do you recommend? I have those swivel spark plug socket. I’m going to do one at a time and I agree to hit the hardest one first.

I already Gap-ed to .022 and checked 3 times

I don't remember the exact combo, but it involved two swivels. I think maybe it was a swivel plug socket, and then a standard swivel and 3-4" extension. Probably overkill but I've seen other comments that a second swivel helps.

Edit: found it, swivel socket + standard swivel + 6" extension, looks like. And from the timestamps I spent ~3 hours under the hood, doing plugs, catch can, and JB4 including tucked wires (not sure about intakes, maybe different day).

Ditto! Maybe it would be beneficial for you to ask a friend to help you so you have 4 hands instead of 2. Or pick a nice warm dry day/spot to work in. I did a complete install of the JB4, spark plugs, gapped to .022, catch can, BMS CAI. Added WMI wires. Tucked and hidden properly, installed covers for both corners in under 3 hours. I had so much daylight left over that I also swapped out my cabin air filter and and fresh oil change. Finally started it up and did 2 pulls. One in Map 2 and one on map 6. Went very well, im sure I did the 0-60 on map 2 in under 4.5 (which was my best time) prior to the upgrades. On map 6 I set the failsafe boost to 20 PSI, started my boost at +4 psi 2000 rpm and graduated from there. I’m still playing but I’m certain I bettered my 0-60 by 1 second. This is more than I expected. My sons similarly tunes Q50 couldn’t keep up.
Basically, don’t let the car intimidate you into not doing the things you dream about, that’s why you bought it. Take your time.
