Paint / Clear coat failure ?

That's exactly how mine started. At first the surface turned hazy and felt rough to the touch, gradually worsening.

Interesting that yours is also the same colour and panel in question. I'm starting to think this is a factory paint issue.

Have you contacted Kia regarding this matter?
I have not contacted Kia yet, but I intend to do so next week. My husband surprised me with beautiful new black rims, so now i definitely need to get my trunk repainted or corrected asap :) I’ll update once i speak with Kia

Did you look into paint correction? That would give you answers and possibly solutions too. That would be my first step, well, after trying things on my own like you have done. Mind you, I have never done any paint correction myself, not as yet having the need. But I've seen videos and heard testimonials and those impressed me.

Interesting that both cars having these problems are the same colour. The yellow paint on the earlier Stingers had well documented problems that required vehicle replacement or repainting by the dealer.

Probably easier to get this one panel resprayed at the paint shop than having to deal with Kia.

Any luck with this?

I have a 2020 GT and I live in Florida. I had the car paint corrected and ceramic coated when new. I hand wash the car and follow with Renew to keep the ceramic fresh. My paint looks excellent except for the trunk lid. I have the exact problem noted in this thread. The clear coat is now completely gone just on that small area. Kia quoted me $2,200 to repaint it. I'm going to a local shop to get it done.

$2,200 to repaint that is beyond stupid, the deck lid comes off really easy and can be removed and painted very easily. Another option is you can buy a full carbon fiber replacement decklid for around $1,000 usd with and integrated duckbill wing and it would look really good on Panthera Metal Stinger.

Thanks! I was actually looking in to the carbon fiber solution. $2,200 is completely ridiculous I agree. I don't have any other cosmetic upgrades but I think you are right that it would look good with my color. Thanks again@

Wow I wonder how many undocumented cases of this there might be.
I wonder what is so specific about the boot lid that causes the paint to literally lose its clear coat and fail like this?

Would you be able to post some photos? With enough head count we may be able to persuade Kia to conduct investigations into this matter..

A lot of members have the spotted/ tarnished roof rails and have had them replaced under warranty...touch wood apart from my now creaking sunroof my paintwork is faultless

And that brushed aluminium appearance still looks new after 2yr's ownership.

Wow that looks awful. This is now the third one in this thead and with all three being the Aurora Black colour.
He said Panthera Metal on his car. I don't think this is a color-specific issue like the Sunset Yellow was. And it's rare - unless decklids are paint "time bombs" that turn to crap years down the road.

What did you do about yours? It's been over a year since you first posted. I couldn't live with this degradation for any amount of time, so, I don't know how you live with it.

The bumpers are plastic and so are sorrounding panels around thr boot deck.
The boot deck is called the Spoiler. It is plastic

The side panels are metal

The rear and bumper cover are plastic

Hmm, I just had both headlights replaced under warranty due to peeling clearcoat. between that and this thread im now kinda worried how the rest of the clear coat is going to fare in the Aussie sun
