how long did they have it?
Is it possible it got broken into overnight on their property?

they probably have signs saying "we are not responsible for theft/damage etc. while your vehicle is on our property"

i think we should start a class action law suit for the lack of actual service from kia because there is none , the dealers are useless 99% of the time compared to other brands

Was going to dm you but don’t have the ability to yet.

Remedy now is available it seems. Anybody have the scoop as to if they determined if the engine needs to be dropped or not?

The recall notice I received today in the mail says they are installing a redesigned/revised part that is more heat resistant and made from a different material than the factory installed part. It also states that it is a three hour or more job.

It Kia has to drop the engine to make this repair I will expect my drivetrain warranty to be extended for the duration of my ownership of the vehicle. If I have to chase issues relating to them dropping the engine I will request a buy back. If a private mechanic can fix this without dropping the engine; then I expect Kia to do the same. Based on the three hour statement, an engine drop is not possible.

If it is done with the engine in the car that will be far better for Kia. And believe me I will be checking the work done after I get it back.

When they call me to schedule the repair, I will tell them I will be waiting on it at the dealership. Their response to that will confirm an engine drop or a in place repair.

I was also told that the parts are not available and they are not expecting them for 3 -5 months; my dealer of choice currently has 650 repair kits on order. Guess they are taking the slow boat from Korea.

Mine is a 2019 GT2 with 39,000 miles on it. At this point mine should be fine as it has not been subjected to the heat soak that a higher mileage Stinger has gotten. Now that it is dark out, I am going to go and take a look for any signs of leakage.

Update:

There is a confirmed report of a Kia mechanic stating that the engine does not have to be dropped. It can be done as in place repair. It is a four hour job on average. But. They do have to remove just about everything on that side of the engine to get access including dropping part of the exhaust. For those of you who have put on non-factory exhaust it could cause issues with gaskets and reassembly of the non-kia exhaust. Keep that in mind.

Didn't your recall notice mention that it would take approximately 3 hours?

I stopped by my Kia service shop with the notice to see what they could tell me about it. They already had some of the parts arrive, but the special tooling for the job wasn't there yet. Curious what a tool like that would even look like.

Also while the job takes 3-4 hours, they have to let the engine and turbos cool down once you bring it in, so it becomes a full day job. OH and the real kicker; Kia doesn't provide courtesy cars for recalls, too bad so sad.

I understand recalls happen, but leaving your customers high and dry without a ride for the day because of YOUR manufacturing defect is unacceptable, especially when I'm looking at a lot FULL of unused cars.

Will definitely be a requirement for my next brand of vehicle.

This is where the Genesis G70 definitely beats the stinger - the dealer experience - of you have a Genesis dealer and not a Hyundai dealer.

Yeah, our G70 is scheduled for the recall repair the first of July at Genesis Las Vegas, since we're coming from New Mexico (800 miles away) they will have a loaner scheduled as per the service writer. Hopefully by then they'll have that special tool and will have done a few so there won't be any issues. Is this the tool, sure looks like it's for the stinger :)???

Yep, exactly. One of the things I miss greatly about owning an Acura. One way KIA/Hyundai can separate themselves from GM/Ford/Toyota is to implement a mandatory dealer loaner program like any luxury brand does. My dealer offers loaners on a first come, first served basis but they are not comparable (Chevy Equinox w/ 50k). Give me something new-ish from the KIA/Hyundai lineup. Who knows, that may expose me to something I like and may want to buy.

Spoke with my Kia Service dealer and they told me they don’t drop the engine. But that one of the parts being replaced isn’t in stock.

Oof, they better not mess up the reinstall of my Kunstwerk EVC exhaust.

Any way for us to inspect our cars, with a borescope? where do we look under car or from the top

From the top. Right above and behind the left turbo (left hand-side from the drivers seat) and above the primary cat. There are two coolant lines that cover the oil line making it next to impossible to see but with a borescope you should be able to get a view of it. Straight down from the oil dipstick tube.

Post #114 in this thread shows a photo of the engine out and you can barely see the line.
