Turbo Oil Feed Tube Fail

Quite a list of parts req'd
Kit Includes:
Oil Feed Pipe
Oil Level Gauge
Oil Level Gauge Bolt
Coolant Feed Pipe Gasket
Oil Feed Pipe Gasket x2
Upper Radiator Hose
O-Ring
And 3 gallons of coolant
Up to 3qts of oil

I've heard problems of the dipstick end cracking, maybe that's why it's replaced, not sure why the oil dipstick tube would get replaced unless you can't remove it without affecting the seal perhaps? The more I think about this the more prone I am to wait until it HAS to be repaired. One good think is recalls aren't affected by warranty time/miles, so no real need to hurry up and get it done.
Are they replacing the dipstick, or the dipstick guide tube only?

I'm pretty sure that "W" refers to the guide tube, and not the dipstick itself, which is "V"

Lots of steps they could screw up considering I’ve had 2 dealers dent my side skirts while lifting it for a simple oil change…before I even lowered the car so no excuse

That's a constant fear of mine - I feel like I am obligated to take pictures of my side skirts prior to any dealership visit now, as I too have been "bitten" by this sloppy worksmanship, and they tried to deny it (until I showed them the pics I took, in their yard, a few hours earlier).

They truly are/were not familiar with working on Kia Stingers.

I am scheduled for my recall May 28th. I will be taking a video at that time of skirts, body, wheels, engine bay huhand drivers seat and anything else I can think of.
I will also ask to see/have all removed/replaced parts given to me - so I can check and be sure they followed the instructions.
I think I will provide them a printout of the Kia instructions with highlighted sections of replacement items that I want back.
Sad, to think I have to do this in order to have any degree of confidence in my Kia dealership.
My local dealer did the same thing to my side skirts last summer when they had it for warranty work. They replaced everything with new OEM parts, but still a hassle and makes me nervous anytime they're around my car.

If I have to take my Stinger to the dealer, I take a video doing a full walk around my car in their parking right before I hand them the keys.

Asking for the replaced parts seems like a good idea.

The parts listed in my post above are what's included in the recall kit, and the "oil level gauge" is part of that kit, so I guess we're getting new dipsticks too! Hopefully that's the only dipstick we're dealing with, and not the tech assigned to our recall work.

I believe that is a typo on the parts list.

They wrote "Oil Level Gauge"
But I think they meant to write "Oil Level Gauge Pipe" referring to step 21b item W.

If it's not a typo, then the parts list is missing the "Oil Level Pipe" which is not to be reused per step 21b

When I have to go to the dealer, the first thing I do when in the service lane is walk around the car making a video of every panel on my car. I make sure the service advisors see me do it as well.

I also tell them no test drives or joy rides unless I'm in the car with them. I know my car isn't a Lambo or something but it's my junk and I take good care of it.

This is where the valet mode on the infotainment is a huge deterrent for them. Always displaying the maximum speed and distance since valet mode was activated.

Crap. My 5-year free trial expired...
Valet mode should not require a subscription.

Yeah, that's probably the case, and I like my current dipstick :)

They almost certainly have to send the old parts to Kia to get paid for the work. They might show them to you, but they won't give them to you.
The manufacturers worry about dealership fraud more than we do!!

In addition to taking pictures, I intend to tell the service advisor that I will be taking my car to my own mechanic to check their work. I have done this with my Corvette when it had to go to the dealer for a recall dealing with headlight wiring.

If you break this service procedure down it's not anything complex, I'd be more worried about reports of damage when lifting the car. They aren't getting inside the motor, sure they're adding coolant and oil as needed and removing external parts, but I wouldn't be too overly concerned once they've done a few of these at each dealer. Now if people are getting this done and report back that issues are coming up, then I retract everything I just posted :)

always good to start off implying they are incompetent to ensure a bad attitude right out of the gate

Weeeelllllll....I mean...most do have a certain reputation already.

If KIA says "three hours" then the engine is not being dropped, period. If a dealer says the engine needs to be dropped then go to a different dealer.
Quoted, and a good point to take note of to be weary of dealership incompetence. My question of this whole "engine drop" who is saying this to y'all that it keeps getting brought up? The service tech in the drive up or the actual certified mechanic? The service tech is an advisor not a mechanic and if the mechanic says it they don't want to do it or don't have the grit to perform the task. Thats my opinion on that who bring up for anyone not familiar with dealer mechanic BS.

BTW I just got the recall and I'm waiting for more reviews and maybe some dealers to let us owners actually be present to take pics and be involved as some people have heavily modded stingers and ain't leaving our car in valet mode for no 3 days lol. It's a clear issue that all of us are concerned about taking our cars in to have work done and too many possibilities for shabby errors to occur and be told it wasn't me..

I posted this in another thread but wanted to get it out there for feed backs from other owners. TIA

Early posters in this thread seemed to have motor dropped since there was no special tool that allowed access to that rear mount area for the feed line. That tool is now at the dealerships that eliminate any dropping of the motor. There's still quite a few time consuming steps, but at least removing the motor drop out of the mix will save many hours :)

so here’s the failed turbo oil pipe feed. Not sure how it got burst but after replacing it with a new pipe, my stinger is all good to go no more leak

I took some time today to inspect the heat wrap on my car.

With a flashlight, looking straight down along the oil dipstick tube, you can barely see the back end of the heat wrap. Further forward you can see the front end as well if you look between the two black coolant lines that run along the top of the turbo and the engine block.

The line you're looking for is below the two black coolant lines and has a silver heat wrap on it.

You can also get your hand in there along side the TCU and the dipstick tube and spin/turn the heat wrap so that you can see both sides.

Mine looks brand new. No signs of heat damage and nothing even close to these photo's from the OP. Won't be doing this recall anytime soon.

For reference, I have 25,000 km's on my car and it is a weekender, not a daily.

I did a similar observation w/ my G70, no visible signs of any damage, and the wrap looks fine.

Good pictures of the old defective feed pipe are here

I haven't found any good pictures of the new and improved feed pipe yet

I had mine done last week. I learned that Kia Australia came up with a different set of requirements for the replacement parts needed. They only replaced the oil pipe and required seals... whereas in the USA they also replace and fit new Oil Level Gauge, Oil Level Gauge Bolt, Upper Radiator Hose. In Au we get to reuse the original parts. Curious!

Anyway, all good so far. It took the day.

Very interesting, were you able to see any of the documentation that said that?

Very interesting that there would be any differences anywhere in the world...

Wonder if it is at all due to left hand drive vs right hand drive? - and the brake booster position?

The US documentation
