Grinding noise

nope. 3 years into ownership, it still does it every time I reverse out of my garage and then put in in drive and start rolling forward. Did it before and after getting a new transmission and drive shaft (those were replaced because of unrelated issues)

hmm.. most awd's don't have lsd so... must be something else.. as on ours it's pretty obvious it is coming from the rear diff

does this noise occur only when cold and doing a slow tight turn? Lots of LSD (Limited Slip Differential)'s make noise when cold and turning.. kinda like a grinding/growling noise. Our LSD (Limited Slip Differential) definitely growls every time we do our first turn out of our driveway when it hasn't been driven in a day or so.

I dont think its LSD related as I have a 19GT1 AWD and that doesnt have LSD iirc.
Also somewhat comforting (I guess?) that @87and66 has had it for years and it hasnt caused any big issues

A grinding sound? And it's not the surface rust being scrubbed off the rotors by the pads.

I actually managed to capture it on camera. about halfway through the short clip, you hear a grinding-ish noise. I almost thought I ran something over, or maybe was rubbing (I'm on stock 18's and stock suspension but have the maxton design lip kit. That shouldn't interfere and this noise has only ever happened twice, but both in the past week. It also has only occured pulling out turning left after the car has been sitting, and sounds like its coming from the left rear area.

I still get this sound periodically in slow left turns. It started after I installed my SSR midpipes. It was worse initially and happened when shifting from reverse to drive and moving forward at slow speed and also on slow left turns.

After adjusting the upper part of the drivers side midpipe further outwards it now is much more subtle and only on slow left turns. Can’t help but think it’s the midpipe contacting something but can’t feel or see how that could be possible. It’s much more subtle than this video now but was about that loud initially.

This thread I thought was describing a grinding noise when driving (straight) after reversing - and the noise was described as occurring within the first few feet of driving.

I think @FreePreview noise is not the same as what others were describing.

You’re right, it does sound different than the grinding I hear/have heard.

Ok thats some crucial information that could explain whats happening to me.
Coincidentally my catless midpipes developed a crack just before this started and I had it welded up. The noise has occurred twice only after this was welded. AND it was my drivers side midpipe that cracked. Next time I’m under the car I’ll try to see if it’s rubbing somewhere

Did they remove it to weld it? It may just need to be adjusted slightly.

It may also just need to be tightened on the upper end. I think that could be my issue too. It may not be torqued down enough allowing some play there.

Mine does NOT sound like that video. Mine is a quick "swish" sound. Like if you rub 2 pieces of sandpaper together. I don't think I'd be able to pick up the sound in a video.

I would guess that, you could capture this on a video somehow .. if you believe this noise could be serious, might be worth it.

Cell phone microphones are actually quite good. Especially if you can put the phone near where the source of the sound is (double sided tape or something). Just an idea if you think it's serious.

Agree, it sounded 'deep' to me, like it translated through the whole car like a suspension component would.

Oh I’m not worried about the noise. I’ve had the car nearly 3 years, so I’d estimate by now that it’s made that noise at least a few hundred times. I may still try to capture it the next time I drive the car.
