Steering wheel bezel swap

Finally got the front and rear bezel replacement from Korea.

Took awhile... Excited to change it, not a fan of piano black in places where hands can touch it. Supposed to be an easy swap once you take the steering wheel apart and gently move the airbag....

yes. even if you don't disconnect the airbag and hold it out of the way, you could still accidentially disconnect it and cause a trouble light. Always respect the airbag.

Having said that, yes it's quite easy to install these. I'm still waiting for my rear facing trim piece, I only have the front right now.

The kit I bought from Ebay had both front and back pieces fortunately. Going to have a go at it tomrrow.

I ended up buying that same kit a few weeks ago and it's still not here.

Does anyone know how to get the wheel cover off? There are two holes, one on each side just behind the paddle shifters. I looked in them with a flashlight and assumed there would be some kind of screw or hex nut but it doesn't look like there is anything there. The screw behind the back of the bezel is just a straight screw but it comes off last.

pop the airbag off first. You will then see the two screws for the front cover, along with the visible one on the rear cover. once those three are off the front comes off and then the rear has two more screws.

From what I can see in steering wheel swap videos, the airbag is released by pushing in rods on both sides through the holes beside the paddles. The irony is every video has a guy struggling to do it forever.

Apparently there is a third locking rod at the base but nowhere have I seen how that one gets released.

The hole for the bottom spring is that little extra hole in the rear trim. Stick a t20 wrench or similar in aiming towards the top of the steering wheel.

Thanks bud. Didn't even see that one. Going to give it a go today. After watching everyone on youtube struggling to release the airbag I'm not optimistic that I will be any better.

I’ve popped the airbag off a bunch of times because the something at the bottom of the horn/airbag creaks (either the springs or plastic touching) still can’t pinpoint the exact cause. I’ve added felt tape and shit, still makes the noise..anyway
I recommend going from left, bottom, right with the tabs for the airbag and have a towel at the bottom so it doesn’t scratch anything when it pops off. Also disconnect the battery (obv).

Thanks for the advice.

Was really simple. Found an appropriate diameter allen key gave it a couple of gentle nudges and all 3 popped open. set it on top of the steering wheel base on a cloth without unhooking wires. Took about 10 minutes total.

I think the metal looks far better than the piano black and no more fingerprints or dust showing.

I noticed on the 2022 the silver bezel is standard. Clearly they figured out having gloss black there was a bad idea.

I just swapped mine out. It took longer to get all the stuff out of the trunk to disconnect the battery than to change the part.

Thats what the console looks like in the plain jane GT. In the Limited model it's silver
