Emblem Havoc

Should I have it repainted or try and mitigate the damage myself?

I have fallen into a deep depression; emblem removal went terrible. Just need to covey my angst!

I think it's time to part her out. Seriously, though that's not that bad. Nothing like what I did to mine when I got the car in early 2019. I melted the paint and pulled a chunk of it off. I wanted to put eh circular E badge on, but definitely couldn't. Even a new oval badge wasn't big enough to completely cover the damage.

Hitting a deer a few months later got me a new bumper, so I no longer have that damage (and I learned how to remove badged properly).Sporting the E badge now. Looks like you can cover that with a new badge. Maybe just not the one you wanted.

Yea I purchased the circular E emblem but hat to pivot to the Oval E because of this. Worried about the oval being flush to the hood though unlike the OEM kia badge

I had the "vintage K" oval emblem after my mishap and it definitely was not flush and there was no way to make it flush. Bothered the hell out of me

What did you use to remove it?
Heat gun and the kit sold on the KDM warehouse site. So 2 plastic wedges, microfiber, and the adhesive remover it came with plus goo gone. I had the heat gun on low for approximately a minute to a minute and a half consistently moving it back-and-forth and up and down over the emblem not letting it sit in one spot

Also, In between trying to wedge left & right, moving up and down I came back with the gun for about 30 seconds or so every other go around

Maybe I'll just try a hair dryer. Thanks for the info! Sorry this happened to you.

If possible, can you share a pic?
unfortunately, I don't have any. I do remember that it didn't make contact with the car on the top and bottom of the emblem because the emblem was flat and the car isn't. And the emblem was a very hard material that didn't flex. It wasn't terrible. Couldn't see it unless you looked for it or focused on the emblem. But it definitely wasn't perfect.

Although, now that i think about it, I bought the emblem that was technically for the back of the car because it was slightly bigger and would cover more of the damage. Maybe the front specific one would have been flush, but I'm not sure. It may also have been flat.

I voted, "put it down", because I couldn't resist. :D But it does come closest to what I would choose: trying to repair it myself wouldn't fly, and there is no way I'd go professional unless I was intending to plug those holes and go badgeless. I've been tempted, but then I remind myself that I am preserving the bone stock look.

If a badge is going on regardless, get a bigger one, as suggested already.

Repairing myself since I am not a pro would be an overstatement. I definitely will probably lightly compound and for sure polish it before YES put the larger emblem on. Just sucks they put so much dam adhesive. My 2011Grand Marquis when I de badged it was so easy it may have made me overconfident with this one. Thanks for the advise and opinion, and I would consider euthanizing it put I’m in the hole 47K LOL

if you go professional you can always put on the new KIA logo...

It looks like it's just extra adhesive. Goo Gone doesn't harm the Kia paint from the bit I've used it on my Stinger, so I'd recommend a smooth plastic edge (like a plastic putty knife) and copious Goo Gone. Very lightly scrape off the adhesive, letting Goo Gone do most of the heavy lifting chemically.

I am wondering the same thing as stoopid (yes, that does not sound good saying it out loud).

Anyways, it looks like adhesive, not paint from the pics.
I actually took paint up with mine. Fortunately the round E badge completely covers it

I bet the new emblem will cover it, but if it is paint bubbling (not adhesive) then you could always wet sand it to be flush if it is really a concern.
If you are putting on a round E badge it will not be an issue, the flat non-oem ones might.

Actually plan on hitting it with 2000 grit, and possibly 1500, even 600 to smooth it out and polish it again. The compound and polish I did yesterday didn’t do jack. Wet sanding seems to work from what YouTube has shown.
