Today I just noticed that for one of the gears (either 3rd or 4th I think) it won't engage, the car will just rev out and buck without putting much to the wheels, before upshifting. There are no dash lights and I'm posting this now before eventually, I will have to go to the dealer. It will do this in all the modes and even if I'm driving modestly to shift softly, or on the gas. When I go to work in the mornings I usually try and let the car warm up or at the very least drive extremely conservatively at the beginning of my drive to prevent this exact sort of wear and early drivetrain problems, and I'm just a little frustrated it happened anyways.

That being said, has anyone had similiar issues? Is the transmission likely shot?

The first question I always ask: Is it under warranty?

I still have about 3 more years on the warranty since I bought it used. I'm going to go to a different dealer since I'm not happy with how the last one handled some past issues. So I am going to make a trip to the dealer I just wanted to see what other peoples experiences were with this issue.

Good to hear. Haven't had any issues on my end. Hopefully the KIA dealership you are working with pulls through.

Please keep us posted on how this is handled.

It took Kia six months and five visits to finally fixed my warped rotors and ruined brake pads all under warranty. Problems started at 3000 miles and weren't fixed until 6000 miles.

I sure "can't wait" until I get transmission failure in my brand new 2020 car with an MSRP over $40k that is advertised as the "Halo Save The Brand!" top of the line vehicle lmfao!

3-4 seems to be the money gear in these cars so far. Several people have had oil pump failures in the trans cause major issues

Several people? Every vehicle has failures. Forums are where folks mostly come to rant....several is not accurate from my 2 years here. Mustang mt trans has LOTS of failures, new c8’s are dropping valves....we have very few stock related failures as a whole, very few.

1 in 11.5 million (via Google 01/29/2021) people are attacked by a shark. It's rare but tell it to the person being attacked.

I know every single vehicle out there has problems and issues. But, and from just basic mathematics and statistics, certain vehicles have issues more than other vehicles. I believe the problem is that people should be allowed to vent their frustrations and not have mindless sheep defend the brand or vehicle since it hurts their feelings.

Overall, for example, we know that a Lexus is going to be more reliable than a BMW, Ford, or Kia... and many other brands... Yes, a Lexus will have problems here and there, but statistically if I am betting money on reliability my money will go to Toyota/Scion/Lexus over many other brands. But why did I buy the Stinger? Because it was more an emotional than logical/rational purchase plus they come with a really solid warranty from the factory.

But here is where the problem is... if you advertise a vehicle (such as the Stinger) as the incredible new machine that is designed to bring the little garbage Korean brand-name out of the shadows to not only compete BUT POTENTIALLY BEAT the big German and Japanese names... and yet these cars have issues left in right with braking systems and engines and transmissions (on stock cars) it is comical. I am on multiple Stinger/Genesis forums and look how many people are experiencing the "dreaded" warped (not warped) rotor problems. I myself have experienced this problem to no end.

The point I am making, and I saw this even back when I was posting on BMW or Subaru forums, is that it is true that more people come to the forums to vent/complain and seek advice for their issues than to praise the vehicle. I also understand that even the Toyota/Scion/Lexus forums have people complaining about issues there... I get it completely... but certain brands and certain vehicles do have many more problems than others and people should be allowed to voice their opinions and raise their concerns.

My car's MSRP was over $42k and is advertised as the big brand halo car to take on and beat all these other giant names in the industry. There is a bit of a sour taste when you see all these people having problems with their cars (brakes, paint, engines, transmissions, sensors, leaks, etc) and it happens to yourself as well. If I was buying some little Kia Soul or other budget Kia car I wouldn't care at all about having problems because I know it is "just" a Kia and I am buying a regular one. In other words, I would expect issues buying a $15k-$25k regular Kia vehicle... I would not expect issues buying a $30k-$60k halo Kia vehicle...

I'm way more active on the Facebook stinger pages. Several is accurate. Because its more than 5+ people have had what's being stated. No kidding every car has issues. No matter the maker.

I can’t except the idea that the problems are vast without seeing the number of issues versus the percentage of owners. Put up a couple polls, let them play out, and let’s see what the info says about issues For vehicles that have not been modified from factory spec. The manual mustangs and the new C8 Corvette’s are having significant issues in the forums,… Are these wide spread? Or, are these just a community of people Joining the forms with an agenda

were all part of an agenda, more of a cult really. this guys the only one with a bad transmission so far out of all the kias but if we hype it up enough, i think we can get free cars. do your part

Ok odd for this to be posted but just yesterday

seemingly out of no where i went up an onramp and had the car go to 4th then i punched it and it dropped to 3rd and reved out just like you said.

Ive had slipping clutches before and it felt similar. I was worried but couldnt recreate it.

My idea on what happened to me:
entered an onramp at 30-35 the car was in third, i accelerated up to 40 or 45 and put it in 4th gear with the paddle shifter and floored it.
The drop switch at the bottom put the transmission into 3rd again at a high rmp but the car did not move faster.
Then i released the pedal and it put it back to 4th.
Simillar issue then i got completely off the throttle and when i got back on in 5th gear it was driving fine.
And again it worried me alot.
Just happened yesterday afternoon.
Will monitor for changes.

Creepily this issue may have happend to me within minutes of your post hahahaha weirrrrd

Someone cant search lmfao... the braking system problems on GT models with the "Brembo" package is huge and vast... Why don't you search up the yellow and orange paint issues or engine explosions (on stock motors) that are running rampant?

Like I said, but you refused to read, I understand that ALL vehicles will have problems out there. The thing is though, certain vehicles like a Lexus IS350 or a Toyota Camry are going to (statistically) have fewer problems than a Kia Stinger or a BMW 650i. These are just a few small examples.

Kia advertised the Stinger has as halo car and therefore people are stunned how many problems they have. Again, I advise you to look up the problems with paint, engines, and brakes. Here... I did 1/3 of the searching for you...

You're not advancing your opinion in a convincing manner when you resort to exaggeration.

Orange is not like Yellow and does not have flaws above the norm: which involves fewer than 2% of the forum membership; even allowing for members without Stingers, that is a paltry number looking for answers to their cars having paint imperfections.

Engines are not exploding, and certainly not failing in "rampant" numbers, even including modded engines.

I've noticed that the transmission on my Stinger can shift very differently depending on the drive mode that I'm in. In Eco or Comfort, it will often skip gears to shift quickly into higher ones sooner in order to reduce RPM and save fuel. It can sometimes seem like it's missing shifts, or that it's slipping when actually it's not. Also, this is a torque converter transmission, not a dual-clutch, so some "slippage" is to be expected.
