How to permanently turn off the Auto Start/Stop button

It's been mentioned several times before, but the solution is simple - just don't put it in park. When the car comes to a halt and the engine stops, push the engine 'off' button. The car's computer will automatically shift the transmission into park and shut down, without restarting the engine.
Or simply don’t push the brake pedal that far down. Idle stop and go only cuts the engine when the brake pedal is beyond a threshold. Same threshold on mine as autohold.

I have a GT1 and a GT2. That would work for one but not the other
Nice! Good info to put into your profile, along with your location - you'll find it very helpful in getting the most of the community here.

All I could think of is instead of ripping things apart to put in tape, push it down and crazy glue the bugger in place..that should fix it.
Might be tag troublesome to undo later though :)

This is the annoying Auto Start/Stop button on the center console (the “A” with the circle around it with an arrow) that you have to push every time you start the car to disable Auto Start/Stop. This mini project should take less than 30 minutes to complete.

Step 1: Open up the center colsole as seen in the “GT Stinger and Me” colsole replacement video. Don’t remove it all the way, just lift it up. It’s super easy to do.

Step 2: Remove the 5 screws holding the row of buttons to the console. There is a screw in the 4 corners, plus another one hiding. You don’t have to unplug any wires.

Step 3: Undo the clips on bottom of both sides of the button housing. There are 4 on one side and a few on the other. Once the clips are loose, the housing will slide right off.

Step 4: Now you’ll see the circuit board. Turn the plastic housing (the one with the plastic buttons) upside down to reveal the piece that pushes the button on the circuit board.

Step 5: Roll up some black electrical tape with the sticky side on the outside. Cut it a bit to size and stick it in the button hole. You really don’t need it to be very think, just enough to keep the button pressed down at all times. If the tape is too thick it will make your button stick up a little bit when you put it back together. This bit of tape will keep the circuit board button pressed at all times without the need to physically press the plastic button down. When it’s put back together the button will look normal and you won’t be able to push it down even if you try.

Step 6: Put the button housing back on the circuit board and make sure all the buttons are working. Put all the screws back in, then clip the console back down into place. Now the Auto Start/Stop button will always be turned off when you start the engine.

Side note: I have not seen or heard of any issues with this button being continuously pressed. The button doesn’t get warm or cause any issues. The other buttons in the row (heated/cool seats and heated steering wheel) will turn off after a few seconds if their button is held down.

May I assume that a similar method will work on the G70?

I’m guessing anything that has the same type of button. Make sure whatever the button turns on is able to be activated when holding down the button when starting the car.

Phew! So glad the 3.3 G70's don't have this start/stop feature. Only on the 2.0's. Hated it in my last car (Acura TLX) and no way we found to disable it. Curiously though that car let me stay in SPORT mode upon restarting where this and seems like many other cars do not.

It's all based on how concerned they are about meeting published fuel economy numbers. No concerns; no restrictions. Concerns; restrictions and default to nannies on. Oh, and add premium fuel requirement to the list, too.

I honestly don't know. I've not taken a close look and haven't seen anyone else having done so. I just don't want my cold drink in the cupholder melting all the ice and warming up because someone in the back seat wants to keep warm. LOL

Hello
Upon ready this this may explain why all of a sudden,( this week) I started having problems with the stinger. It would auto stop normally and when brake release not restart. Left me stick in traffic for a few moments today. Not a pleasant place to be. Will consider this option after scheduled service this weekend.
But I can say that the car is a jou to drive. Handles extremely well. And the 2.0t has respectable fuel economy.

I didn't realize this was an issue with people. Why don't you like this?
That feature just sucks in general. I really dislike the car turning off and on at a stop light. I would have bought a Prius if I was looking to save gas. When I first got the car, my fiends and family were asking if there was something wrong with the car because it kept turn off & on. Just a little piece of rolled up black electrical tape and 20 mins will permanently solve that problem.

Same, lol. Probably the only thing I dont care for in the stinger. I stuck a piece of folded paper and wedged a tiny corner of it in the depressed auto on/off position and it's been stuck there for a good year so far :p

Just not a feature we are used to. Then there is the worry of wear tear on car start / stop all the time. If you drive in heavy traffic could do this hundred times a day. System should remember your previous selection. Sport mode / eco / start stop.

But at least we all know why it doesn't, so Kia is not to blame...

I actually did the procedure in this thread, removing the console etc.
but in my wife's telluride, I took a piece of wire strap and inserted the tip of the wire strap between the switch and the console from the top, and it lock the button as is pushed in.... It worked! a lot simpler and no removal of anything!

Thanks so much! I can’t wait to try this. This is something that annoys me and I will be so glad when it is fixed. I really appreciate you posting this.

that is the "cheap" way to do it ... or you can buy a module but honestly why when we can use some electrical tape :P

Thanks. I’ll try this on my G70. I wish that someone could tell me an easy way to keep selected driving mode from going back to default after each shut off/on? :) And the most ridiculous feature of all is having to turn on the auto high beam option with each start.
