• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Interesting what you say about the smart alternator, I didn’t know that. I’m by no means a mechanic or auto electrician, literally what’s under the bonnet runs it and put petrol in the hole in the side to make sure it runs lol

It’s never cut out while driving, issue is random lengths of run time in parking mode, it’s not very consistent, and at 12.5v it cut off as soon as I killed the ignition, but others haven’t had that experience. I run it generally at 12v before it automatically cuts off in parking mode, but then I randomly get a message about the starter battery discharging due to external electronic devices when I start the engine. Doesn’t happen every time either.
I'm currently keeping an eye on my battery(I had an apparently faulty auto tailgate sensor that was draining the battery too low to start, despite the battery still testing okay after charging the dealer put a new century battery in, i will let you know the charging voltage and what it sits at after engine shutdown and over time as i measure

....well after a couple of days of not driving the car the wife reports the car started up just fine. Im suspecting the misses left an internal light on which drained the battery. And the poor Dash cam was suspected. .....Let me come back tomorrow and report a dead battery.:rofl:.

Just don’t let the leader of the opposition in your Stinger. Problem solved

Hmmm. Now that you mention it mine has told me it’s ‘powering down’ on more than a few occasions but I’ve never given it much thought. I don’t think I’ve heard it after driving and while still in the cabin though. I think I’ve heard it most frequently after I’ve been shopping and have opened the hatch to load the groceries in. I won’t swear to that though because I haven’t been giving it sufficient attention. I’ll start taking more notice and report back.

So I’ve paid more attention today and I’ve established conclusively that my memory is ratshit. I’ve driven from home to work to the shops and home again and at the conclusion of each journey the dash cam has told me it’s powering down. Upon checking the recording history for the day I see that parking mode hasn’t been enabled once. I’ve got a multimeter laying around somewhere; I’ll dig it out and see what voltage the battery is showing.

Hopefully the wife is ok too lol

Have you disconnected the camera altogether for a while? You could have a dodgy tailgate like mine with poor timing?

Im thinking because the cars is 21 months old I feel if the tailgate was an issue it would have happened before now? Unless its coincided with the new Dash cam. I'll find out next week, it will be interesting to see if Autobarn find the issue was their install and admit it.

That would be a coincidence, I did go back a few pages to check how long you have had the car, but ran out of time

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but usually a car battery lasts about 2 years before it needs replacing especially if you don’t drive it much. Maybe get the battery checked out and replace if necessary.

2 years ! Brand new Car batterys are of a higher quality than your store bought batterys. I've always got 5-6 years from new cars. Cheaper batterys no less than 3 years evvvvvver. This will be something to do with D/C install.

The original battery on our Rav4 lasted from 2005 to 2014

The Bosche battery it was replaced with in 2014 is still going strong.

If your batteries are not lasting more than 3 years then you are doing something wrong, perhaps having headlights on even at day time which I see heaps doing..

2 years!? You must be using yours to jumpstart the plane. :)

My SSV was 6-7 years old when I traded it for the Stinger. It still had the original battery in it.

I don't know if this is true I had a work colleague who inquired about buying a battery from a new car. He was told new car batterys are far superior to regular car batterys and were worth from memory over $1,000. Im not sure if this was true?

Buggered if I know either but I’d sure like to be selling batteries to him. :)

Ok the latest on the flat battery and the suspected mis install of the Blackvue 900 and magic pro. So I took it back to Autobarn , as you might remember I went there originally armed with my mobile opened on the forum with a fellow members expert tips which I tried to quote.
The resident " Expert" sprouted that "he didn't need any advise as he cut his teeth on such luminarys as Porshes and Mercedes Benz".

Well the manager inspected the "Experts" install I believe it was wired to accessories not to continuous . More annoying he kept cutting me off from getting my 2 cents worth, cos I do enjoy a good whine and gloat. Let's see what transpires.

The installer wasn’t the guy from the “ I know boats” commercial was he?:)
