Changed non-electronic shifter knob to Hyundai one

More PICTURES!!!!

Okay I went ahead and tackled this today, like others have said, removing the stock shift knob from the stock shift boot collar was a PITA.
I ended up having to drill out the two plastic tabs to remove it. Everything else was pretty straightforward. I didn't need to file new grooves, just used some force and shoved the new shifter down until it latched.
Thanks to OP for this easy mod! IMG_20190826_155644.webp

Nice! How did you get the collar to fit so flush with the knob?

I trimmed a bit off the top of the leather shift boot, and wiggled the new shift collar up to about 1/4 inch from the top, then cut slits in the leather and folded it down so that it's compressed between the shifter, and the shift collar!

That's smart! Mine looks a little loose and has some gap :/

Looks great! Matches the red seats.

Got the 2016-2018 Optima/Sportage/Cadenza shifter and installed it. You definitely need to buy it with the boot as the collar doesn’t match the original Stinger collar. Part for the one I got is 46720-D4200W and I found it for $34 shipped (with the boot, which you need because of the collar lock ring). Here’s the pix, I think I could have done a little better trimming the boot and getting it to match better but it’s fine for now.

Tools that helped me were:
  • channellocks, to remove the clip that holds the collar up inside the boot
  • super glue, to take down the boot to the new collar
  • plastic trim removal tools, to remove the original shift boot from the center console
  • small scissors, to trim the top edges of the boot so it folds nicely into the new (slightly smaller) boot collar.
I like the simpler, more elegant look of this shifter over the original Stinger one. Thanks all for all your tips!

Ok, I did it...I cut close to 3/4 inch off top of stinger boot. Also where the stitching goes around new shifter plastic lock I dremeled out center for a tight fit. Pics:

It’s in, works great but decided I want to go the route the other user here went, ordered the optima shifter.
If anyone wants my N line shifter u can have it for $25 plus shipping. That is just black satin wrap over the red.

Optima shifter seems like almost the same thing as OEM?!? I *SO MUCH* prefer my N-line shifter over OEM.

I just thought the stingers looked like a dodge charger (in my head)

Turboawd
Nline is really cool but I don’t like way it feels resetting my hand on it:) optima shifter difference is shuttle but enough, it’s a smoother more streamlined version in my opinion.
