The Kia Stinger Oil Thread

In Canada, Partsource stores carry Total oils. It goes on sale every couple of months including the MC3.

I run Mobil 1 15w50. Perfect for the desert and a high performance turbo engine.

Folks, please be careful when choosing a motor oil. There is a reason that there are Euro-spec oils and associated ratings. If you do not have an American flag under your forum name, then it is probably not a good idea to use a Euro-spec oil in your Stinger.

Different geographic regions have different oils because there are different gasolines in those regions. In the US, our gas historically tends to have more sulfur and Ethanol than other worldwide gasolines. The additives in our oil take this into consideration. Just do a google search to see the differences between US oils and EU oils. You will quickly learn that they are not interchangeable.

Went in today for my 2nd oil change at the stealership today
They told me the interval they use is every 7.5k since "I am full synthetic at that they wanted to use the most out of it".
My first oil change was @ 7k, I came in at 11k, they told me to come back ~14k.
I am thinking about calling them to reschedule when I am at 12-13k right? Just explain to them that the manual states the interval at every 6k... :/

Without a "Used Oil Analysis," all intervals are somewhat arbitrary. Depending on the oil used, the fuel used, driving style, environmental conditions, etc., your oil change interval may be shorter or longer than any "standard" recommendation. Rather than do an oil analysis, people tend to use top grade oils and follow the manufactuer's recommendation for oil change intervals (OCI).

If you want to more accurately determine your oil actual/needed change interval, companies like Tribologix and Blackstone offer these services. If not, simply use a quality oil and follow the manufactuer's recommendations. That being said, a 7.5k mile OCI is a reasonable number provided you accumulate these miles in less than one year and your car is being used as designed.

So take your pick based on your temperature range of driving, desired MPG, style of driving (high reving RPM in the hottest conditions vs casual city driving in the cold)

Just read through the manual for my '19 GT1 (just picked it up today), and for the Theta 3.3, they removed everything except 5w30 and 10w30...

Yep you are right, a few weeks ago the canadian manual said 5w40 for the 3.3 as well, now just 5w-30,
anyone with a 2019 printed manual?

yet the 2018 still have this..

Hmmm wonder why 0w30 cannot be used for 3.3t?

While 5w30 are good the general consensus is 0Wx contain greater amounts of superior base oil such as PAO

Amsoil goes at the top of my list.

While @Helo58 is correct, please be aware that Kia will be a stickler for following their minimum maintenance requirements in the event you need enforcement of your powertrain warranty. The minimum under normal conditions for an oil & oil filter change is 6,000 miles OR at least annually even if you've driven fewer miles. No if's, ands, or buts about it.

Does anyone know the capacity of oil removed? I know when you drain or pump out the oil you do not get the full 7.29L out.

Thanks in advance,

What is considered better in the manual when is states ACEA A5 or better for the 3.3 Turbo? I used Total Quartz INEO MC3 which is ACEA C3. This was recommended by Total for the Stinger.

Right around 7 Liters pumped out.

I just had 30,000kms Logbook Service last Thursday & the Dealer has used Havoline 5W-30 so I assume this is the factory standard viscosity to use.

5W30 oil is pretty common for modern high-performance turbo engines. Depending on year model, the acceptable oil viscosity range is quite wide.

any brand to recommend for 5W-30 SN PLUS(prevents LSPI) in Australia? cheers

I assume you get Mobil 1 down there? Can't go wrong with that.
