API SM/ILSAC GF-4 5W30 or 10W30

Their answer wasn't very re-assuring, frankly.

They said because Kia don't specify SN PLUS, I shouldn't bother with it.
since SN PLUS was only introduced recently(2018)KIA wouldnt have realized its out there haha
anyhow i took my car in for a first 3k service at kia Castle hill and asked them what oil they use for stingers and if i can also bring in my own oil,
they use Castrol 0w30 as recommended by kia? and also warranty will be voided if i use any other brand which is not Castrol??(WTF......)
i might try Ryde kia instead.....

What a crock of shit. I don't know how some dealerships get away with blatant bs talk.

If the oil meets or exceeds the spec then you can use whatever. My first 10k service I took the car into my dealership only because I wanted them to change the diff oil for free otherwise I would have taken it to an independent mechanic or changed it myself (if between logbook). Anyway I took my own oil in (Amsoil) and they had no issues with it. They didn't make a big deal about any of the mods either. They were more impressed actually and said they wanted to pimp out one of their showroom cars the same.

So never believe a dealer when they say your warranty will be void if you blah blah... Your warranty can never really be totally void unless you modify everything with something crap that makes everything fail.

Ask them for that claim in writing so you can confirm with the ACCC that they can do that.

SN+ oils are extremely hard to find in Oz. Surprised none of the big main brands have them, where as in USA all of them have formulated their oils to SN+ specifics.

If anyone wants high quality SN+ oil, Kixx in Sydney is importing and directly distributing their oils to customers. At very good prices too.

I will most likely be doing my own oil changes on my stinger GT2 and wanted to know if Penzoil platinum full synthetic would be a good oil to use. I have used this oil in my previous vehicles and I have been very happy with it, but none of my vehicles were turbo. I would like to know if this oil would be good for the twin turbo engine and if not what oil would you recommend.

Does it meet the API SM/ILSAC GF-4 specification? If so, it will work just fine.

My wife had an issue with the Hyundai dealership until I told them to smarten up. I was unsure when she bought the car if synthetic oil would be required by Hyundai (in the Santa Fe 2.0T). I looked in the owners manual and the recommended oil was just conventional (no mention of synthetic) and the API recommendation wasn't even the most recent (it was lower than SN, called out SM or SL). I told the dealer we just want conventional and they tried to tell us that doing that voids the warranty. I told them what the manual recommends and they tried to claim that was old information and out of date. I emailed Hyundai Canada and they stated synthetic is consumer choice but is absolutely not required. I kept this email in case there was issues because the dealer still tried to state running conventional voids warranties.

This is part of the reason I'm glad I didn't get the Genesis G70, if there is no Genesis exclusive service center in your area, they send your car to a Hyundai dealer, and I'm sure it would end up at this useless dealer.

This might be blasphemous to some, but I'm thinking of using Supertech synthetic. I've done a couple changes with Pennzoil platinum, but I'm thinking why spend $24/5qt, when I can spend $18? That's, lol, a savings of right around $8 per oil change. Add that to $5 Wix filters, and a DIY synthetic oil change costs $30. I may do it just as an experiment.

Looking at pictures, it appears Supertech is API SN Plus approved. I can't imagine Supertech being a bad choice, it just doesn't have any marketing behind it. Maybe that's why it's so cheap, no marketing bill to pay.

I only run brand name synthetic oils in my cars for one reason only, the premise that the big companies have a reputation to uphold, so they should be maintaining the bar of quality, and I like to know I have a quality oil for when I want to drive the engine hard. Friction is the long term killer of engines, so to me having the best lubricant may extend the life especially when I push the engine to it's limits. Of course, the kicker is I never seem to put on more than 50,000kms on a car before I sell or trade it, so I'm probably only helping future owner(s), not me.

Anyone who even remotely cares for their Stinger would utilize quality lubricant and under no circumstances would fill with mineral lol. Besides, the difference in cost is miniscule if anything.

Ideally SN+ / ACEA A5/ C2 / Mid-Saps lubricant would be a good fit for the Stinger

The oil is API SN plus and ILSAC GF-5

Sounds like a great choice then. It exceeds the requirements that Kia have, and in a good way (SN+ in particular is good for TGDI engines). Just make sure you choose a weight to suit your environment.

I am in two minds about my oil choice. Penrite tell me their full synthetic product is fine - it technically meets the minimum requirements that Kia state for the car. But it isn't SN+, and I have concerns that lacking SN+ means that it may not be optimal. They have an SN+ oil (it is in their ENVIRO+ range), I need to evaluate it for full suitability.
