Kia,

Please add the feature to display the Android Auto turn by turn information in the HUD, like it is available in other cars for example in the Honda CRV.

The existing navigation software in the Stinger is pretty much useless as traffic data is mostly non-existent, and I can't trust the navigation system to route me through the fastest commute route, so I use Android Auto instead. But the feature that shows the next turn and distance in the HUD is pretty cool, and I'd love to be able to use that in the Stinger.

While you're at that, make an improvement and also show lane information in the HUD instead of just the turn direction. Both the Stinger's native navigation software and the Google Maps have that info, so it should be possible to add that to the HUD.

Yep...This should easily be possible. Deeper integration is desperately needed.

Gt1 here so no HUD but would take some AA maps integration into the center gauge screen. When using the (as stated above useless) Kia nav there is some very minimal integration into that screen. But it could be so much better and include AA and carplay.

And while I'm at it would it be so hard to add music info and a damn clock to the center display as well. Was excited for the large center display until I realize it doesn't really do anything or display anything the regular one doesn't.

Sadly neither does the Hyundais or Genesis or any other car that uses this system... I am not sure that either AA or CP offer that data (next turn distance, next turn street name) to the car systems anyway. I do know they offer "navigation on/off" data as you can't have the AA/CP maps running at the same time as native navigation. One turns off the other one.

.

When you are on the home screen you don't get media info? I get it there on the top right square area.

I get turn by turn nav details to my Android Auto headunit from Waze when it isn't the active app (but is running in the background).
It shouldn't be hard for the car to interpret that and display it on the HUD (particularly given it does it from the built-in NAV software).

A quick Google search brings up some cars that do provide the feature we are asking for:
* Mazda 3
* Honda CRV
* Honda Accord

And I am sure that there are many more.

So the feature is entirely feasible, it just depends on Kia being willing to build it.

I don't think you understand what he was requesting - neither of those 3 will take the navigation cues from AA/CP and convert them VISUALLY for the HUD using the car native navigation system. This is most likely because AA/CP do not provide this data to the car.

People in the Mazda forums are requesting the same feature - Upcoming CarPlay with HUD?
Accord forums say its not available either - Third-Party Navigation and HUD - Drive Accord Honda Forums

You get VOICE cues because they are going through the car audio, that is not the same as converting those cues into a visual for the car navigation system.

You are probably looking at old posts.

Apparently I am too novice to post links, so I can't post the references.

Those are from December of 2018, if anything changed then its probably for 2020 models. Would be fair to compare whatever comes for the 2020 Stinger. For now you can post links like this [blablab.com domain] SPACES /urls/link/page.html --- we can put them together ourselves. :)

got it :)

I take back the Mazda one, looks like it is available but through a software-based customization of the in car infotainment.

But here is one example for the CRV:

And here is one post by a google employee where he says that the feature is available if the car manufacturer chooses to use it:

support.google.com androidauto/forum/AAAA6SY52nIEG2RoiUvw0w/?hl=en&gpf=%23!msg%2Fandroid-auto%2FEG2RoiUvw0w%2FHCEay82xDAAJ&msgid=HCEay82xDAAJ

mmmm seems some Android based/powered car systems do read it. Is ours Android Based? It seems like AA only, couldn't find anything about it for CP so that doesn't help me. :(

Yes the Stinger's Infotainment system is running on a version of Android.

No. I get a VISUAL cue overlayed over top of other features (such as the home screen, and the music screen) giving me turn-by-turn instructions IN ADDITION to the audio VOICE cues.

Yes, that is right, I can tell the difference between visual and audio. I find this skill helps to make me a better driver.

So, in summary - Android Auto is able to take the nav data and provide visual cues outside of Waze. Thus, if it can do this, it is possible that the same data could be taken by Kia and used to drive the HUD.

How are the voice cues you claim I was getting on the HUD?

I am not the one with reading comprehension issues here.

I will repeat what I said earlier, just to make it easier for you to understand.

It shouldn't be hard for the car to interpret that and display it on the HUD (particularly given it does it from the built-in NAV software).

So, to clarify - I am saying that it shouldn't be too hard for the HUD to be sent the turn-by-turn instructions that Waze and Google maps already provide to Android Auto.

Yeah dude, so easy, that’s why it is working, no? Waze and GM provide ANDROID OS the information. The HUD is the car own system, even if based on Android, there is no correlation. You make it sound like since you have eggs, powder and milk in the kitchen so that mean you have a cake. You don’t.

I am an software developer and mobile/android developer, make with that info what you will. Have fun eating raw eggs, powder and milk.
