I ceramic coated my new Stinger GT2 with 22ple HPC. It's been 6 weeks now and I am very impressed. Despite all the rain in Atlanta the car always looks clean. Drove it in a lite mist down I85 the other day and with the 80 MPH speed it was like going through a car wash. Dirt and dust flew right off. From now on, all my new cars will get ceramic coated!

I keep hearing how clean everything stays with ceramic. And of course that is impressive inducement to make me get it done. I asked the owner of the car wash I go to (and he has full detail services) if he did ceramic and he said no, "What is that?" Er? A professional car wash guy doesn't know what ceramic is? It's possible I reckon, but the more I think about it, the real reason why he'd feign ignorance is a bid to dissuade me from it. Seems like I'd be coming in a lot less often if I got ceramic done.

Don’t get it done at a car wash. Go to a reputable retailer that uses good stuff. But I am not sure how valuable it is if you take it through automatic washes. A lot of them void your warranty on the ceramic coat if you do that.

Interesting caveat. Thanks. How do you clean off the underside of a ceramic coated car in the winter, then?

I just knew you were going to say something like that. But it is a serious consideration around these here parts.

I did my coating myself over a weekend. Not difficult, cost about $200, but it is a multi-step process. I did three coats. 2 of 22ple HPC and 1 of 22ple Final Coat VS1. 12 hour during time between coats. I am not aware of any warranties - kind of like getting a warranty on a bottle of wax. I have taken my car through a car wash twice now I see no evidence of swirl marks or degraded performance. The manufacturer indicates HPC should last 2 - 3 years. I can extend the life by occasionally applying a layer of Final Coat. My two cents....but if I lived up North I definitely would apply a ceramic coating.

I just had mine coated with G-Technique and love it. It's been raining like hell the past few months and the beading is awesome. I had my windshield done and it's just addicting to watch it bead off the windshield at speed. A full paint correction and ceramic coating on Black Stinger's just looks amazing.

Mine is insanely filthy from the skid pad, but I need to wash it this weekend anyways.

Yeh, there are a number of good products out there and they seem to be continually tweaking formulas and coming out with new stuff. Durability will remain to be seen. Most of the companies are fairly small and not sure how much resource they apply to long term testing.

Did you do any type of paint correction?

My thing...if having it done by then... for the high cost, wouldn’t full PPF be better long term?

Ceramic coating doesn't protect against rock chips, so yes PPF would be best for long term protection against debris. Ceramic coating is perfect for me since I park my car outside all the time, and want to preserve the clear coat and be able to spray it down easily. Atlanta has such bad traffic you are never going fast enough to get a rock thrown up at you.

Pro's and cons for both to be honest. Ceramic coating was better for me, since tree sap and bird dookie is a constant issue where I park

I did mine as soon as I took delivery. It had been on the dealer lot for a month or so and had some test drives (50 miles on odometer) and was transported from Virginia to Georgia. To be safe, I did the clay bar treatment. Had never done it before. Very easy and took about 90 minutes. after that paint was slick as glass. that was it for paint correction.

A good quality PPF will generally be WAY more money to install than ceramic. For me, I did PPF on the front and ceramic on the rest of the car. The ceramic and paint correction was half the amount I paid for the PPF on just the front of the car.

Damn it man. I want to do this on my own, but I'm afraid lol. Write up the a step by step for the community:)

When it gets nice out, take a drive up north. I may know a guy ;)

I compounded and polished my new GT2 Ceramic silver and then installed Gyeon Synchro ceramic coat, you could not believe how smooth she is, water repellency is extreme and washing the car is so easy especially drying it is a breeze just use leaf blower to dry my baby it takes coupe min.
