When you hit the gas and you're flying, when you let off the gas do you let off slowly and easy,
or do you completely take your foot off the gas where it jolts you?
Which one is bad for the car?
I let off the gas abruptly driving a gt500 and it about sent me thru the windshield.
I think I'm doing something wrong.

Do you have aftermarket BOV's?
Do you want that sweet sweet BOV sound?

Do you have the OEM diverter valves?
Do you like whisper quiet boost management?

I think if you double pump the accelerator pedal to full WOT, pretty sure the car will do a wheelie!! Like in that arcade game we all played in high school.

yeah! im like map41 on a jb4 piggybacked on a racingchip, i got that double pump money! you still didnt answer my question. i just want to know how others let off the gas pedal! its driving 101...yeah and that cruisin game was the shit.

I usually let off quite abruptly and coast. Yes, the sudden transition from WOT or close to it to engine braking can be startling. Nothing is happening to the car doing this. But I'm stock.

im stock too, i was just giving him shiz..

I was wondering the same. Mine was more significant after installing the Lap3 ECU (go figure). I even messaged David Chung to see if this was normal. Apparently it is.

'Engine breaking' is colloquially known among enthusiasts as a way to slow the vehicle without using brakes. Doing so utilizes the rotating mass and therefore inherent friction from piston, rod, crank, gears, the vehicle along the road ect. to gradually slow the revolution per minute of your engine. While remaining in a fixed gear either by choice in a manually gatted car. Or through hope and dreams in an automatic. Some believe that doing so is an application of foreign or opposite direction torque on the engine and various parts.

I do think that way but still partake in it. Oil and rings and bearing are for those spots in question. I do it on my motorcycle too and many discourage that. But i also smoke. So maybe i take to much risk.

As a side not most automatics engage a neutral effect when you are not accelerating to both improve coast times and reduce this engine wear.

In all my years - I have never heard of someone discouraging engine breaking - on a motorcycle.
I, like you, would just ignore that "suggestion"

This thread seems to be about the speed of the lift off the throttle pedal!

Everyone engine brakes. Ever coast up to a stoplight in 1st? It just depends on the driver as to how much. I think on a properly maintained engine any damage caused is negligible.

the OP's question is...

when you let off the gas do you let off slowly and easy,
or do you completely take your foot off the gas where it jolts you?
Which one is bad for the car?

and about 1 person responded.

Some of the engine braking actually comes from compression, which creates heat as the air is compressed.
Diesels can do it much better since they have higher compression and typically don't even have a throttle body the same way a gas engine does.
The brap-brap noise when a diesel truck comes down a hill is a compression brake called a Jake Brake.

My car rarely sees above 2500rpm in the city. Nowhere to go fast. Lights lights and more lights. I typically coast to red lights.

However, no matter how quickly or slowly the throttle is released, i'm confident the ecu will compensate accordingly. If you're in manual mode (joke), and in a lower gear, engine braking will be considerable so it's it's advised to roll off the throttle progressively. Wouldn't want the ass end to lock up.

The OP’s question makes no sense. You are either accelerating or decelerating in gear (engine braking) unless cruising or coasting. How fast you remove your foot from the pedal makes no difference. I’ve used engine braking in/on every motor powered vehicle I’ve ever had.

So i missed the point and went in a rant style tangent! Sweet!

Im such a goof i swear

Maybe this needs to be a poll question.
