Just got an iPhone X, and tried to use the wireless charging pad, but no luck. The light isn’t illuminating amber or green. I have the phone out of the case, so that isn’t the issue. I have looked for something in the settings but haven’t found anything to activate. Am I missing something? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Make sure it's enabled in the gauge cluster menu. I forget what it's under. Conveniences or something.

Didn’t check the instrument cluster menu’s, never would have imagined it would be there. Thanks guys I’ll check it out next time I jump in the car.

I hope it’s the issue
Cheers

Again... buys 45k vehicle. Doesn’t read manual.

bet you’d read a manual for a $700 drone....

Actually did read the manual, don’t remember every page of it. Searched through the infotainment menus as that’s logically where it would be. Had no luck, so posted here to this fine and very helpful community while I was waiting in the doctors office waiting room. But thanks for your two cents on the matter.

Note. Download the manual from the Kia owners portal and save as a pdf on your phone.
Search function becomes very handy that way.

Thanks dad, good luck with the war.

So glad I came across this thread because mine hasn't been working either and I admittedly skimmed over some of the infotainment bits in the manual.....I'm bad

I'm with you Flame. Mine has always worked but I never knew you had to turn it on or off until now. Why in hell would you want to turn it off. I know the cowboy is right about reading the manual as he keeps telling everyone on this forum but sometimes it's just fun to learn the hard way.

I would imagine you've tried actually driving with it, but after installing mine I found that it won't work with the door open.

I turned mine off because the phone is plugged in and charges while using Android Auto, and the wireless charging pad is a handy little cubby space to put the phone in. I had previously left wireless charging on while plugging the phone in because I thought it would only use one of the charging methods, but after a drive one day the phone was really hot, enough for it to say functions have been disabled due to overheating.

So now I leave wireless charging off.

My phone charges a lot faster using the wireless pad - which works even when plugged in to use carplay. Of course, my phone supports rapid wireless charging - if yours doesn't, perhaps it wouldn't make a difference.

Wasn't worth 2 cents with my (company issued) S7. Would add 5% over 20-30 minutes, phone would go into thermonuclear meltdown. Seriously - last time I tried, it shut itself down due to overheating.

Works like a charm with my (just arrived) S10 though.

My phone does support it, the problem is/was that it was charging with both the cable and wireless charging, overheating the phone. Does your phone only use one or the other when both are available?

Does it physically fit in the space? I have an S9+ and while plugged it, it fits with maybe 1or 2mm to spare, with the lid closed.

It fits when NOT plugged in - I've only tried it just for charging so far.. Haven't tried plugging it in for Android Auto.

I suspect it is defaulting to the wireless, because it charges much faster than with the cable alone and the Qi LED comes on. It might use both, no way to tell really.

The only time I don't have it in the wireless slot is if I'm using the 2nd-screen option of Waze navigation. That's when I note the cable connection can barely charge the phone with the screen on.

iPhone XS Max.
