Hi everyone, I've been thinking of adding intakes and a catback to my '18 Stinger. I dont want it to be too loud as I still want it as a cruiser. However, I don't have valves on my '18 model and the videos on youtube show them being too aggressive

The video I linked above has the perfect sounds for me, but I think thats with the valves closed on the new model. Is there a better intake/exhaust suggestion for minor burbles and pops on my stock '18 Stinger?

sound is very subjective when it comes to exhausts. having said that, as long as you keep it to catback only, and replace the tips, most of the aftermarket units will give some nice burbles and not be too loud. Once you start replacing cats and downpipes, things start getting loud.

Each exhaust and additional mods will create its own unique sound. If you want to sound like the car in the video you would need to go with the Borla Exhaust (FOUND HERE). Intakes are usually one of the first mods I do since they increase performance and sound and come a little cheaper than a catback. Doing both at the same time is a great way to increase flow and get both exhaust and induction noise making the car much more enjoyable when you push the go pedal. Keep in mind Borla is the most aggressive option but in my experience on its own its not overly loud by any means, this is incredibly subjective though. I would suggest taking some time to browse through the different exhaust options and listening to the sound clips to get a feel for what best suits you and your needs (CLICK HERE).

And then they sound sexual.. until they start blowing smoke .

You can buy the Bi Modal exhaust as an option from Kia.

It was initially invented by a company in Australia as an after market accessory and later adopted by Kia as a factory fitted item

This is an Australian dealer Ad. You should be able to find it over there.

I have the BORLA exhaust, K&N intakes, JB4, and a Pedal Commander. It’s loud when I get on it but subtle at Cruising speeds. I always drive with it on Sport but noticed Comfort always quiets it down to much. Comfort also quiets down the intakes as well. It’s truly two different cars, in the way it drives and sounds. But that’s my opinion. And I also noticed that changing the Pedal Commander settings, changes the way my intakes sound. I have the plugs on the intakes with the factory BOVs vented to atmosphere.
‘19 GT1 rwd btw.

Yeah, no.. Not worth the time and money to me. Stock exhaust it is. I do like the Bi-modal option though.

I have the MBRP and K&N intakes. Plenty of PSHSHSH and mellow burbles. Not loud at all. Great fitment as well.

You can just do the k&n intakes they are really loud especially with the stock bpv in recirculation mode.

Non valved mbrp is a deep, bratty but mild on volume setup. I had the mbrp initially and felt it was too quiet but that might be just what you are looking for. Borla is more throaty, aggressive and louder. That's what I ran until I got the valved version. The borla will have slightly more pronounced burbles than some milder ones from mbrp. Keep the stock secondaries if you want to keep it more quiet with less drone.

If you add jb4 the exhaust can get REALLY loud when you get into boost especially if you have additional mods and run e30 on map 3/4! 😁

Thanks guys, seems like I know what direction to head towards

Sometimes takes some experiementing to find what works for you. I found my perfect exhaust setup after some trial and error. :)

I went through the same thing. This happens especially when you try to copy the sound from a video because it sounds different once you hear it in person. I thought by hearing something it would be what I wanted and I went through a few different set ups to get what was right for me. I might switch again though LOL, but plenty of other mods to do first!

That's right! There is definitely some good information I can share from my testing of the borla active vs mbrp pro active with ark mids.

I remember hearing the mbrp active on the video and thought maybe it doesn't seem loud until I heard it in my car and driving it around town/freeway.

It was way louder than I predicted with the ark mid pipes than what borla active is. Probably due to the small turbo style muffler and the fact that the valved seperate pipe doesn't go through any muffler makes it far louder, and the 2.5 inch piping that is bigger. This also means more in cabin noise. BUT, it sounds absolutely killer, IMO best tone out of the stinger v6 that is already difficult to sound good.

And I learned that the valves on the mbrp seem to open much earlier and far more than what borla did. I looked at the way the valves opened with car on revving it and I could tell just driving it and even switching to sport to open valves. On the mbrp it was very noticeable but not much really on the borla. The borlas valve only open up more once you really get on it. The 2.5 vs 2.2 inch likely might flow bit different as the borlas muffler is much larger though it is lighter than the mbrp. Another real pleasing part of the the way mbrp sounds is when you turn on the car. Deep loud and bratty sound that you can feel almost. Not with the borla. And the mbrp has loud shift blips that sound epic.

I did try the mbrp resonators and really didn't like how much quieter it made the exhaust. It did remove the initial rasp I had when the exhaust was new, along with reducing drone but it was still there with valves open. I took them off and kept it without resonators. Far more to my liking but some might find it far too loud. I think the resonators are a bit too big and they removed some of the more pleasing frequencies the exhaust produced. Maybe a vibrant bottle style resonator will work far better but I am not experiementing anymore.

Over time you do get used to the exhaust sound and maybe that's also why I felt the borla was far quieter than the mbrp when I switched back temporarily. I remember initially getting the borla and thought it was loud. And then I put the mbrp and I was like holy shit this is way louder. You could be heard with the mbrp from blocks away. 🤣

Great review, totally agree that the system sounds better without resonators regardless of what system you have 😉
