Will a tuned 2.0 ever approach stock 3.3 power?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but It's not possible to have twin scroll turbos on a v6 because you have an odd number (3) of cylinders on each side. Because of the way they need to be fed (equally to each "scroll"), they are only used on I4, I6, and V8 engines

Technically it would be possible by splitting the exhaust valves, I am pretty sure there are engines that do that.

Practically, they are not twin-scroll because it's not needed given the fairly low output.

I owned A 2011 335i when BMW went from their Twin Turbo the same year to a single Turbo (Twin Scroll) and ended up with the same horsepower numbers. See below from Car and Driver. The one constant was that both were 3.0 liters. But it goes to show that a single Turbo in this case with some modifications can match the power of a Twin Turbo.

For 2011, BMW dropped the N54 twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and replaced it with the N55 single-turbo 3.0-liter. With direct fuel injection, a twin-scroll turbocharger, and BMW's Valvetronic variable-valve-lift system—the N54 covered its turbo and direct-injection bases but lacked Valvetronic—the new engine bests its predecessor's EPA-estimated fuel economy, 19 mpg city and 28 highway versus 17 and 26, respectively. Power remains the same: 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque.

I have a stage 2.0T EA888 gen II Q5 with APR intake, HFC dp, CF intake and intercooler. On the dyno it gives about 270~(Fail to disable all ESC so could be higher) I almost go for the K04 kit.
It give 6.1s to 5.9 to 0-100
A stock Stinger I do the test it gives 5.3s(again, failed with LC,now I know how to!)
The power is so different. So my sugeestion is Go V6 and a tune. "Big" turbo(I know k04 is not real big one) is not as good as V6TT.

Have to see video of modded 2.0 Optima smoke a tuned 3.3 400+ bhp Stinger GT.

Pretty much what the title says. Been reading a ton on this site and rarely come across folks who even tune their 2.0s, much less provide any kind of performance numbers afterward. Saw one guy still getting 6s 0-60 times after a chip, which makes you wonder what the point even was (maybe it feels better to him, which is all that matters I guess). I get that the easy answer is "get a GT", but I've got a Base already that I do enjoy, I just want to know if going down the mod path is worth it for the 2.0. I saved probably $8-9k minimum going w/ New Base vs New GT, so if I can throw back in $2-3k and get back a lot of power I lost in that decision, that would be awesome. My suspicion is you can't even get close, and that's fine, just want more experienced opinions.
you can for sure get to stock gt power! I also have a base 2.0 with a race chip some spark plugs and a k&n filter and I have raced with gt models before and proved to be a very good race

That's hilarious.

So after the XLR Throttle Controller on Race Plus, Injen Intake, Race Chip on mode 6 (93 octane) and Catback Street Demon exhaust......this 2.0 is no joke. I chose a loaded 2.0 over a stripped GT. I chose to have a sunroof, 8 inch touchscreen w/Nav, Projector headlamps and a Harmon Kardon system. Now with these added mods, I can...and have embarrassed sporty 4s, V6s and kept up with 400 hp V8s. I'm almost certain they had no idea I was running a 2.0t. This is with temps 95 and above. I did find out afterwards that they dyno'd my car in Comfort mode. Will do Dyno again when temps cool down (possibly with JB4 on mode 2) and get to a track hopefully this Fall.

similar here....i have the 2.0T and will admit, i went to buy the GT. none on the lot and didn't want to wait...(money burning hole in my pocket)......bought base 2.0T because it was the blue color i like. added JB4 and HKS plugs (K&N intake on the way). map 2/3 is shocking the CRAP out of mustangs and camaros.(C6 vette got me by a couple of lengths but he saw i was not done.....). i was driving a 2010 nissan sentra(child support) at time of purchase so test driving the 2.0T was like driving a Ferrari......i used to have a '93 RX7 TT and i didn't think i would ever drive another car with that ability (speed/handling). Stinger can't touch it in the handling dept. and i would challenge even the GT in the curves with that RX7 but with the added mods, the 2.0T could keep up/maybe even beat the RX7 in speed. it was bad-ass right off the showroom floor.

Nice. That Blue is awesome. The Stinger already gets plenty of attention. Now with that Blue color....it's probably even more so. I always wanted an RX7, but the R1. I guess they were pretty limited. I owned BMWs 330i and 335i......and this Stinger is just as impressive as they were....with more tech features. Just wondering how much difference I would see/feel between my Racechip RS (mode 6) and JB4 on Map 2/3.

A 2.0t felt like a Ferrari heh? And here I am with my 400+whp but wanting more. Already eyeing an intercooler kit and meth and e85. I guess people have different perceptions of what's fast enough.

"figuratively".....felt like a "ferrari". when you have been driving a Sentra for 4 yrs, what doesn't feel like a Ferrari????????? My RX7 had the R1 "package"(basically spoiler and wheels) but the engine/drivetrain was the same as the R1. had a 1.5 car length on a same model year vette on the highway at 155mph and RX7 was not done.......this was '93 mind you.....i love the 2.0T stinger just as much but will probably wait and trade it in for the 2022 GT. keep in mind Gen. Vodka or whatever.....unlike even the GT stinger(with your HP increase), that RX7 weighed in at right under 2900lbs curb wt. Even your GT can't mess with "physics"....and your heart would have been broken.......

Oh I know that mine is a boat. But hey, its a practical family sedan. It's not a s2k or a Miata.

If you go to a performance shop and tell them your hp/torque wishes, then they can do what is needed to give you the gains to match a 3.3tt. Pick one that is familiar with the stinger.

Forget the bolt-on parts sold separately, as they are a compromise and will not do the job. You will need to go fully custom.

I expect custom work will be very expensive and will probably exceed what you would have paid for the 3.3tt.

Rule of thumb, always buy the biggest engine you can afford. I do understand that you may have done that already.

at the end of the day.....i will upgrade to the 3.3T at some point. again, i opted for the 2.0T as a "temp" compromise. that is why i am not going "all in" on the mods. the intake, jb4 is a nice compromise for a couple of years but i am realistic in that i would prefer the GT. Some my be totally satisfied with the 2.0T and, coming very soon, the 2.5T which should really determine the "line of demarcation" between the 4 and 6cycl engines. The question: do i really NEED the V6????? Will be interesting to see how Kia plays that one out with the Stinger. Love my 2.0T just not "satisfied". but hey, after getting the GT, should i win a lottery, i won't be satisfied with the GT either.....maybe the "Ferrari" is the next step???? LOL. AWESOME CAR/AWESOME FORUM!!!!!!

M-B has pretty strong 2.0L 4 cyl at 416-hp-- no doubt Kia could do that too- - - but would it sell!

Not if Kia wanted to keep the same warranty. That Merc engine is boosted to oblivion, won't last 10 years for sure with how some people push it.

That's true- but folks that buy an A-Class AMG don't keep cars 10 years, and longevity is not a high priority. You think the Stinger would go 10 years, if you just drove piss out of it EVERY day . ? . I don't.

They did a stress test, ran it at full throttle for a long time. I didn't recall the number but it was pretty good. If the engine could not handle the abuse then they would not give it such a high warranty. If the stock singer engine blows up in warranty then what's the loss? Mercs and BMWs are like air bnb. You use it, you trash it and then you leave it for someone else to deal with.

did not mean to get this thread off the rails.......to answer the original question of the thread....like others have said, if you have the cash, you can make the 2.0T perform as well/or better than a stock GT. question becomes "why". to answer another question: my 2.0T w/jb4/intake running map 3 gets pretty close. meaning almost as much power and almost as quick. i test drove a GTS back in March(dealer still had one on the lot-for a reason) and i floored it a couple of times just to get a feel for the difference. have not done any "official" times but my 2.0t is right there until triple digits and out of the hole, may give up about a car length or less......again, we are talking about a "stock" 3.3T. most folks don't understand that the difference between 4.8s and 5.5s is "less than a second"....on a 1/4 mile strip, that means a lot but on I-75, it does not......
