What's the consensus on the widest front tires that can be run safely on the GT AWD? I'm looking at getting some lighter wheels/swapping tires, and I'd prefer to run a square fitment instead of the stock staggered arrangement. Will 255s fit, or is 245 the max safe? Not looking to cut things too close with a daily driven car.

I will also like to have the answer. but not for the front wheels. I'm looking into purchasing a wider tires for the rear wheels.. do you think that wider tires (like 275) would make the car grip more, and is its safe for daily driving?

if you check, i had posted a thread on the forum about a member who has a tire/rim shop and i brought my stinger there for fitment. i will check and find the thread.

Depends. Do you mean on stock wheels? I wouldn't run more than 245 on an 8" wheel. I have 255/35s on 8.5" aftermarket wheels, and 285 rears on 10" wheels. Looks and handles great

255/35/19 on 19x9.5 +25 all around

Like the aggressiveness! Now, if we could find a wheel that doesn't stick it's parts out further than the tires to avoid curb rash...

Can you post a pic of your wheel and tire setup? Preferably one from the front to show how they match up to the fender. Thanks.

It's all a matter of fitting the right size tire. It is not a wheel related issue. What you are seeing is tire stretching, meaning that the tire size is not appropriate for the application.

 That's exactly what I thought when I saw how far out those rims and spokes are protruding. This isn't Ben Hur where we are trying to tear up the competition's wheels ferpetesakes! And curbs are waiting eeeverywhere, like an ambush, just for that moment when you don't see one of them. I didn't appreciate before the Stinger just how vulnerable these high aspect ratio tires make the rims.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, I have the GT 19" wheels. The factory's rear tire sizes are 255.

Q1) How much wider tires I can install (e.g 275.. etc)

Q2) Will installing wider rear tires on my RWD make the car grip more?

This was posted on another thread a few months back.

The factory 255's are a perfect fit for the rear factory wheels, however the 275's will fit fine on the rears, as stated above, the tire will stick past the wheel a bit, but nothing that will affect the dynamics much.

The fronts could also run a wider size, a 245 will fit great. However when changing the widths of the tires you will also be changing the sidewall size as well. So basically for a 255/35/19 (oem size rear) the sidewall measures 3.5" whereas on a 275/35/19, the sidewall measures 3.8". In the case of the front tires, the factory size is a 225/40/19 the sidewall measures 3.5" and on a 245/40/19 the sidewall measures 3.9".

If you look at the numbers you can see why KIA decided to use those tire sizes, the sidewall measures the same and maintains a leveled ride height.

That wider tires comparison video says "yes and no". Yes on dry surfaces, the wider rears add "gription". No, on a wet (sandy?) surface, where the moisture has further to travel to get out from under the tread. There is the issue of changed handling characteristics. Oversteer and understeer are affected by changing the width of the tires, front mostly but also (iirc) the rear.

You will need to install wider tire on the front too, as increasing width on the rear tire only will create crazy amounts of understeer.

I think it is worth a read/watch to help inform what direction you want to go in.
