3.3TT Tire Life / Warranty / Roadside Assistance / AAA

That is seriously messed up. This is the kind of damage I would expect to see from summer Michelins used at freezing temperatures: not when the tires are being used as intended. Michelin wants to see your tires, believe it. Tread wear, even in a few thousand hard miles, is okay; cracking is never supposed to happen.
Well, here in LA, they didn't get much "freezing temperatures". I sent the photos to the service advisor at the dealer to see what they say. The Stinger was at the dealer yesterday - still working through some of the warranty items I've posted about previously.

Is this a common issue with Michelin tires? My Stinger came with the summer-performance Michelin tires. My only gripe is just how fast the rear tires have worn out on my car. Pretty crazy that they're almost bald at less than 9500 miles in my opinion.

No, not common at all. This is the first time I've seen anyone with Michelins as scary looking as that!

Looks like Manufacturing Defects. I've seen retreads look like that back in the day, not modern tires with 8000 miles on them, I wouldn't drive on em! Looks like tread is going to separate from sidewall.

I just called Michelin and the auto system said I have to take it to an authorized Michelin Dealer for inspection. The local tire shop I've used for years is on their dealer list. It's 5 miles and I can use surface streets.

I agree it's scary looking but I think 5 miles is OK.

Follow up Q - My Stinger is AWD. I've heard different opinions regarding other AWD cars I've had in the past (Audi A6, BMW X5). Some say if one tire needs to be replaced, all four have to be replaced (Pep Boys actualy told me they would not replace one tire on the A6 when I had a nail puncture the sidewall). I'm not sure if that's for real, or some BS story to get people to buy 4 new tires. What do the experts here say about the AWD Stinger in this regard?

For sure. Just keep it under the "magic" speed of 50 MPH. :D

Replace in pairs. (edit: of course, reasonably a tire that got destroyed when it was close to new - well over half the tread left - could be replaced individually; a few millimeters of tread depth difference is not going to create any trouble)

I had an Audi A5 and was told they would only replace all 4 on AWD.

50 MPH... in LA no problem! Usually under 30...

Just got off the phone with Kia dealer service and they said any Michelin dealer can handle warranty claim.

On my A6 Pep Boys said "all 4", so then I took it to the Audi dealer and they had no problem replacing the one tire.

I think its recommended but not required by any means, I guess it's subjective depending on where go, who knows for sure? But as tires wear they act and sound differently, which is why it's probably recommended to replace all 4 on an AWD?Especially if they are getting to the wear bars, you don't want one new tire and 3 really worn tires as it will affect the cars handling.

If your other tires were still very good then I don't see why they couldn't or wouldn't replace the one with the damage.

The guy at Pep Boys told me it was a corporate policy because putting one new tire on a AWD could damage the AWD system.
This smelled like a BS upsell to me but when I googled it (some years ago) I found plenty of people on the internet making similar claims, but very little hard evidence to support it. I also recall seeing some people on the internet saying tire shops would shave down the new tire to match the other three tires. I make no claims to be a car expert, but having dealt with MB & BMW service departments, I've been told some things that defy common sense & experience. We used to have an X5 and a BMW service advisor told me "It's very complicated to change the oil on an X5. It takes 5 hours" - (yea sure buddy)

Silly question but is it a bad idea to order a set of brand new Bridgestone all-season tires to put on my rear while keeping the front half worn Michelin summer tires on? I do not need to replace the front tires since they have about 50% tread life left. My concern though is mixing different types (summer vs all-season) from different brands.

Gotcha! Thank you Merlin!

Great! Shoot me a PM and I am down to try to work something out! I am looking to replace the rear tires with something all-season since I'll be back in NY within a month or so. Thanks! (2020 Stinger GT-RWD-Staggered 19'inch)
Not sure how to pm on here? Where are you located? I am in TX

5 hour oil change...WOW! Do they have to pull the motor? LOL!
