I asked the dealership to not drill the license plate in because I saw a tow hook license plate holder for ~$20 on Amazon and thought it looked super clean. Thoughts?

If it meets the requirements in your state for showing a plate, and you like the result, go for It! Just be aware of course that if you actually need to use that front tow hook, you'll have to remove the plate. :)

Yeah Texas requires it unfortunately :/ I just thought the off centered look was a little more exotic than standard. And fingers crossed it never needs to be towed but removing it isn't too much of a hassle

Utah also has a statute requiring front and rear plates. But in Utah lack of a front plate is not a "first offense", i.e. cops cannot cite you merely for lacking a front plate, but they can tack that infraction to a "first offense" citation. So far, so good! :P

I think that if I ever get cited for lack of a front plate (and after that happens you HAVE to put one on, or get extra fines for non compliance), it will be a tow hook arrangement, simply because I refuse to drill into my front bumper cover. I don't think that a front plate looks good on this car no matter where you put it.

This was a hot topic last year and several members were concerned that the side placement reduced............................ air intake

Personally thing they look a little goofy. Buy hey to each his/her own. Loss of air flow/direction probably not a good thing.

Yeah I saw that, there were like 12 different placements of the actual plate and I think I picked the one where I am not blocking any airflow (it's hard to tell from the angle of the pic I took but the bottom grill is not obstructed at all) by placing it as far to the left as I could.

Fair enough, and I'm not necessarily taking this to the strip and would consider myself more of a casual owner than anything so this was more of just a personal aesthetic decision

There isn't any real loss of airflow with a plate off to one side. It's not big enough and it isn't clamped to the front of the grill. Plenty of air gets around it.

If I didnt have holes drilled I would have done it too , best of all worlds would be no plate imho

Front plate not required here so my opinion may not be of much use, but...

If I had to run one, I'd put it in the middle, as painful as that is. Set off to the side does not look good.

Consider a plate mount/backing that uses VHB, so you don't have to drill the holes?

I've seen plenty of Mitsubishi Evos run an offset plate mount to prevent reduced airflow through their intercooler.
