This is how I spent my lunch today

fify.

I had something domestic sold as similar to my (2015) Sorento while that was in for repairs for a week, what a piece of crap.

So little that inspires.

No joke. I'm in a Mitsubishi RVR, as far as options, it has heated seats....

And a twisty key, no remote start, no heated steering wheel, and it's -40C today, so it's outside running with the key in it because nobody will steal it because it's too damn cold. Oh, and the stereo SUCKS. Thank god it has Bluetooth streaming.

The ENTIRE dash crackles. The whole thing from left to right, it's unbelievable. Makes the noises in my Stinger feel not worth complaining about by comparison. If I owned this car, I probably wouldn't be alive anymore.

The rental company said I can swap it for something better, but that's tomorrow, because pretty much everything better is already rented right now. They said maybe a Maxima, at least that had a factory remote start on the FOB. I'm willing to give up AWD for a car that's actually warm inside, not freezing to death.

I'm intrigued by the Alfa Romeo GTV. Should be out next year I believe. Might be what you're looking for.

Sad part is am looking forward to the -10 next week, the heated seat went my accord. The RVR will get you home since the roads are just ice right now.

Ah, yes. I was considering the Giulia Quadrifoglio until I found the only dealer in metro Atlanta is 30 miles away. Then I took a look at one when we were over on that side of town (to test drive a Stinger, in fact), and my rather skimpy daughter couldn't even get in the back seat with me in the drivers seat (I'm only 5'11). I didn't even bother taking it out on the road.

Yeah they don’t have too much room, it’s for the single life.

Precisely why I'm suggesting the GTV coupe. Revvdmedia is looking for a coupe and you never want to take a step down in performance. I was also looking at the Quadrifoglio when I bought my first Stinger but was nervous about the reliability. I would think Alfa would have solved those things by now. It's a great looking car. The only other thing out there that catches my eye is the C8.

What you think of the rear of the C8?

I don't....that's for all the slower cars behind me to comment on. ;) To answer your question though, the rear doesn't bother me. I know everyone says it looks like a Camaro but I've never owned one of those either. Bottom line, I'm sure some development costs were saved by going with similar parts. It's a worthy sacrifice for keeping the cost down for a completely new mid-engine beast. No car is perfect or ever will be, just my take.

The GTV is definitely intriguing, but the base model will likely be a bit out of my price range right now, plus there's no way I won't regret not getting the quadrifoglio version when it comes out (505+HP). Maybe that can be something for the future. Right now, I'd like something not overly large, something still fun but relatively civil (primarily decently well built), has some features, and under 50K if I can. 50K really thins that list out if you get rid of SUVs, trucks and "commuter cars."

My pricing is not necessarily due to affordability, but I work in oil and gas, and if I find myself out of work, I'd rather have lower payments so I can keep driving...

Your a smart Albertan.

Thought Alfa Romeo’s have a troubled repair history?

No matter the vehicle we have, there will always be imperfections. For those of us who can afford these relative gems, let’s enjoy what we have. Many cannot.

Every car can run into problems

Agreed 100%!

I'd steer away from cars with known safety flaws, power train issues, or pooooor customer service. Minor flaws can be annoying but are things I can live with as long as those flaws can be fixed at reasonable prices.

If it's any consolation @Revvdmedia I've had zero problems in my two years of owning a Stinger. No squeaks, rattles or paint issues. Maybe re-think and come back to a 2021 Stinger? The value for money, warranty, cheap servicing make it a no brainer for me. I also find it economical at 10.2 litres per 100km. When I think of a worthy alternative theres nothing for me that ticks all the boxes.

It's very well possible I could end up with a better one, but I think two factors come into play.

1. I do like driving a variety of cars. If I had it my way, I would own numerous cars, but financially, this isn't possible. Right now is an excuse to try a new one.

2. The dealership experience in my city has a lot to be desired, and that is at least a known variable. I do not think they deserve my business, buying another Kia would only be potentially giving them more revenue. For all I know, another brand could be just as bad, but I'm willing to try someone new.

Fully understand , my dealership experience wasn't nice either . Oh to be rich I had have a vehicle for each day of the week.

Calling it a "troubled" repair history would be like saying Audi/MB/BMWs are just slightly less reliable than Toyota/Honda and only a little more expensive to repair.

It has a Ferrari engine (which generally don't care for things like serviceability, oil change cost, etc - $2000 oil change is a thing in Ferrari Land) and maybe transmission, mixed in with a bunch of Chrysler and Fiat parts - what could go wrong? Oh yeah, I know - it broke down like 2 or 3 times during Car and Driver's review test? :-)

Which dealership have you used?

Which dealership have you used?

I've primarily used the south dealership. They're not rude and they give you loaner cars, but the problem is I've had the car in for probably 10 different complaints and they have not fixed a single one (Edit* except a very poor touch up on the side skirt that had a massive paint chip from the factory, and removed the spot under the stone guard from the guy they subcontracted, which left "waves" in the wrap where it was pulled up to remove the spot), are barely did any sunroof investigation, wrote that off as "normal." I've heard from more than one source that the north dealership is equally incompetent for fixing things, and someone mentioned they tried to have the west dealer to fix the sunroof and had the same response as I did. A 5 year warranty doesn't do me much good when they won't bother to fix things, and I think this attitude is justified since I've seen others here in other cities with dealerships that actually TRY to look into things and fix them. I would have tried Sherwood, but it sucks to have to go 25kms out of my way to get service done.

As for Korean car alternatives, I have to say, if Genesis had a G70 coupe that looked like this at a similar price of a loaded spec G70 Sedan...I would be checking it out already (t's just a render):
