The world almost won today [also: why I don't put a lot of stock in having nice things]

Yes it can, if you give it to them or they have a warrant
Assume any smart traffic / personal injury lawyer will go after: cam footage, cellular records, any car telemetry logging, video in the area, social media post on driving habits ...... maybe even vehicle service / maintenance / performance upgrade records. The possibilities are endless when there are $$$$ to be made. Better call Saul!

Assuming you don't get injured during the incident, the dashcam video can be deleted and if you format the memory card and start a fresh recording immediately it would possibly write to parts of the memory the deleted files would have reside, creating very difficult hurtles to overcome in any novice attempt to recover the deleted data. Hard drives write data 'deeper' than flash memory, so it doesn't take much to make recovering deleted data from flash memory impossible. [this is my intermediate level understanding of these things]

Of all the years I've been using a dashcam, not one time had I thought I would ever need to delete incriminating footage. Having that thought might be a sign one would need to re-examine their driving habits, IMHO.

I like to use my horn, pre-emptively - just a quick loud honk - lets drivers around you know that you are there - just in case they have the memory span of a goldfish (10 seconds).

Just take a look at all the dash cam compilations out there. Half the clips are people posting their own incompetence or straight up fraud.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I have a couple spirited accelerations and racing lines on my dashcam LOL.

There's a lot of stoopid people out there!

Probably no reason to be worried unless you get in an accident in the act, get injured, and the police confiscate the dashcam.

Other way to look at it, the chances of that happening are fairly great due to the higher speeds so not using the dashcam might be something to consider...

Can the police legally claim to take your dashcam if there is an accident that you're involved in? I would assume most people would not mention that they have a dashcam if they were racing and caused an accident... and it was all recorded on the dashcam... #selfincriminate

The police are allowed to collect any evidence for the case. If they don't see it, then they won't take it, but I suspect they'll noticed the dashcam on the window (and my radar detector lol). Same for any cell phone related data. Just because you own the thing capturing the incriminating evidence doesn't mean it can't be used against you.

Just gonna throw out the fact that one could simply pull out the micro SD card and put it in whatever cavity won't be searched...

LOL

Huh, well yes that would be a viable alternative to allowing them any chance of recovering data. Crushing the microsd would also accomplish the same thing, as it's impossible to reconstruct damaged flash memory. I'm cheap so throwing it away wasn't an option, but it's only a $10 card and certainly worth losing $10 if it mitigates charges/law suit.

Yeah... I wouldn't mind tossing a $10 card to avoid being in big trouble lmfao! ;) :p

I didn't know that about the police... good to know! Although I'm a good boy for the most part! :D
