Does anyone know what oil is used in the Stinger? I'm thinking it's probably a synthetic blend. Do you plan on switching to something different after break in? If yes what is at the top of your list? Also do you plan on doing your own oil changes?

Unfortunately in our country the KIA dealer insists on using there oil otherwise the warranty is voided. However they do use full synthetic oil.

If you are hard on your car Castrol 10w-60 would be on the top of my list, otherwise if you are easy going then Mobil 1 will be more than enough.

So take your pick based on your temperature range of driving, desired MPG, style of driving (high reving RPM in the hottest conditions vs casual city driving in the cold)

I appreciate the answer, but not quite what I was asking.. the question is whether or not anyone knows what actually comes in the car.

Hey guys! Nazmie here from Brunei. Going for my first service at 1000km. The dealer told me that the current oil is on a Total 5w40 fully synthetic. I might opt for a castrol titanium edge fully synthetic 5w40 or Motul. Climate in Brunei ranges from 27 degrees celcius to about 38 degrees celcius. Thoughts?
Hey, welcome! Glad you joined us.

I am a little surprised they used Total oil. With the temperature in Brunei almost always warm, I personally wouldn't go as low as 5w, I would just start with 15w-40 or 20w-50. Though, 5w-40 is always a safe choice. I know people in South East Asia who almost always use 20w-50 racing oil due to the extreme heat when just driving around the city.

Welcome aboard, @Naz136! Thank you for signing up! Which model Stinger do you have? And what car did it replace?

Yea so i brought it in to the dealership and injected it with Castrol Titanum Edge 5w40. It worked so well for me on the Audi I had previously. Thought id give it a go. Responsiveness seems to be better. Well i will only know when i get more mileage in it. Will update.

Well congratulations on your brand new Stinger GT! It looks great!!

The manual says the oil must meet ILSAC GF-4 or above. I used Mobil1 in my G8 GT for over 190,000 miles. Mobil1 is GF-5 so that's what I'll use. No Total oil anywhere near where I live. 5W-30.

I will have to find the Oil Forum I once came across where they discuss Oil in detail. It is pretty amazing. I will use Mobile 1 on mine. I was required on my Corvette and used it for years with a lot of success. You can also get a great deal on it at Costco on Mobile 1.

The factory oil (that came in your Stinger) is Total Quartz 9000 Energy HKS G310.

For some reason, I'm having serious issues posting. It keeps saying it looks like spam. I'll try removing all useful information and see if it works. You can PM me for a link to the source of that information, because the site won't seem to let me post it.

HKS G310 is an extended mileage oil, designed to last 30,000KM or 18,641 miles. The standard 9000 series can be ordered on Amazon for $38. I did a lot of research, and Total oil actually is better than pretty much anything else. It's the manufacturer recommended product for all new German makers as well as Hyundai/Kia. Using Mobil 1 probably wouldn't make much of a difference, but you should get slightly better mileage and longer engine life with Total.

I wrote a fair amount about oil, which rating to use under different conditions and why, but I am guessing the few paragraphs of info was the issue with posting? I don't know. Anyway...

In short, if you're trying to decide which oil to buy, Kia's answer is Total Quartz 9000 5w-30.*

*which rating depends on climate, and whether you have a 2.0L or V6. I've deleted all the explanations on which to use and when. Hopefully this will go through.
