The door rattle

It appears that loose clips on the plastic under the car may be to blame for some. Catches wind and the noise travels up the b pillar. May want to check if those are loose.
That’s what the issue was with mine except clips are not loose , but the plastic is bowing downwards between clips. So I jammed something to bend the plastic upwards overnight and the plastic was then even with frame, and noise went away.

I found the rattle in my passenger door turned out to be the grab handle in the roof. Took it of wrapped the backing plate behind the headliner in felt tape and no more noise, took me ages to figure out it was that.
Thanks Martin! Sounds like you did a lot to figure this out so I greatly appreciate the reply. My rattle is at the driver door so it may not be the grab handle assembly but something that rattles with high wind so I’m looking into these clips at the bottom of the car.

Thanks for clueing me in! as somehow I missed the whole 2nd page of this topic so today I will definitely look into the clips under the car which might rattle with high wind shear and transmit up the pillar.

Anyone figure out the door rattle?? I just got a new 2020 GT2 and yes I get the rattle at the top of the driver’s door at sustained speeds 50-60 mph but it gets louder as you go faster 70-80 mph so it does seem related to the wind or air dynamics. May try the lubricant for the door seals thing and see if it helps. Thanks for any input! Otherwise love this car!
Check under the car. The side skirts that wrap under the car have clips. I had the issue on the passenger side. Go under and make sure the skirt is fully engaged. Push the underside hard to see if anything clips in along the full length. Solved my problem. Wind carries up the B pillar when the clips aren’t engaged.

Yup, even if clips are not loose, if the there is a big gap between the plastic and the frame, the wind gets in there. So need to “bend” the plastic so it is flush with frame to close that gap.

Thank you so much! The side skirt under the car was indeed loose and not fully engaged into the clips along the driver's side so I simply pushed up hard until the clips clicked into place. Then took the car out on the highway...AND NO MORE RATTLING! Yeah! this is such a simple fix to an immensely annoying little problem. Thanks to all on the forum who contributed to figuring this out...much appreciated!

glad it worked!

I had the same noise also. Today I reached under the edge of the car to where the plastic piece that runs under the door is hooked on to the bottom of the car. I found that it was loose the whole way along its length. I could put my finger between the trim piece and the bottom of the car and feel the loose clips. Everywhere I felt a clip, I pushed up until I heard a click. I did this on both sides of the car. NO MORE RATTLING!! I hope this fixes it and I don't need new clips.

Edit: 100 miles driven today (6/29) and no rattling! I am a happy man! :D
I am a happy man too! Yes the skirting under the car was indeed loose all the way down the driver's side on my new car as well and just simply pushing the skirting up until it clicked into place as you said has - VOILA!! - solved the problem of the rattle up the B pillar and into the top of the door at highway speeds. Thanks for tip and the crazy easy solution :)

Yes this should be a TSB. I informed my dealer for future buyers.

Gotta try this now. Been dealing with the rattle for several weeks now. Hopefully its just the side skirt on mine as well!

My Audi R8 V10 Plus glove compartment is rattling also driver seat plastic trim is rattling, any one has any suggestions?

I'm also trying to diagnose a noise that seems to be coming from both driver and passenger side B pillar or upper window areas. This typically only starts to be noticeable when I surpass 50-60mph and it sounds almost like it's wind induced. I tried to take a video of the noise by putting my phone up next to my pillar as I was doing some highway driving. Is this a similar noise to what others on the thread were experiencing?

Video:
Tim experiencing the exact same issue. Did you find a fix ?????

My side skirts were super lose! I just snapped them back in and it fixed the problem right away. Glad I didn't take it to the dealership just to have them rip the door apart...
Yup that’s what it is. For some reason lots of cars are being delivered without the underside of the skirts being engaged into the clips. Had same problem. Snap snap all gone

Hi guys chances are its the door seal! The too most top outer rubber seal touching the door frame. Get it lube you will be fine!
Hello there Dennis! Is there any brand or type you'd recommend for sealing it?

Hey all! Extremely new here!

I too am experiencing this trouble, and have read this thread. I have the 2019 Kia Stinger Base model, and was wondering if the side skirts are causing the issue on my car, or maybe I just need to apply some lubricant to the seal to stop the noise. I've seen both as the solutions, but don't know due to my specific vehicle.

Please let me know :)

I have been fighting this since day one and a 2000 mile road trip made me want to park this thing in the ocean. This piece is loose and sort of clamps around the upper door frame. There are two points or rattling. One is the edge where it meets the window trim and the other is the gap between the trim itself and the door frame.5121CD40-C0F8-4960-9902-25E1D50358CD.webp

I have been playing with felt pieces. Which has helped. I am going to pull it off today and add thin weather stripping to see if it’ll fix it. I am ready to just silicone caulk the whole thing in place to get rid of the rattle.

the felt has helped but the parts without felt still rattle.

I’ll post back after a couple days with weatherstripping. Ridiculous for a $60k car.

Mine does it but it's minimal, I know how you feel recently my R8 window motor had to be replaced because window won't go up and its a 210,000 car. I guess happens in Germans as well.

Well, the felt and weatherstripping did not eliminate the rattle. I also removed the spacer behind the grab handle that someone else mentioned eliminated their rattles. While it seemed to help a little bit, I am ready to trade this thing in for the rattles.

it’s going into service today. So I’ll see what they have to say as well
