Sunset Yellow Discussion

It is depressing to see how many are totaled in such a short amount of time.
I won't even look. Depressing isn't strong enough description of the complex of emotions that I feel when I see a Stinger destroyed. Heh, even injured is bad enough.

The number of accidents claiming Stingers is testimony of the car's performance cred. Most drivers are not nearly as good as they think they are.

I’m pretty sure Kia or the vendor that supplied the defective primer are turning the vehicles in to an insurance company that is paying for all our vehicle claims which is why they won’t sell them back since the insurance company is obligated to give full reimbursement.

I was at my local dealer getting my passenger side rocker panel replaced since the morons that painted the car broke the clips on it and I saw a yellow GT1.

From what I understand it is a surrender that they got it at auction, seems another dealer gave it up.

My service advisor told me that they thought the dealer paid in the range of 24K for the car. The dealer took care of some "warranty items" and is apparently selling it back to the auction house under some deal they have.

Based on this information, and the fact that I no longer see the other 2 yellows that were floating around here (the auction car is at least 5 different shades of yellow - looks like crap) I would surmise that the surrenders are just going out to pasture.

The dealer would not sell me the car and insisted it was going back to the auction guys, but I cannot find it anywhere.

I was looking here: Kia STINGER Car For Sale, Used Cars USA, Online Auto Auction, Car Shipping from USA - Auction Export

and here: https://www.iaai.com/Search?url=pd6JWbJ9kRzcBdFK3vKeyhemMpm/KU7A3DtM+lH1s0yxTvF4GlWIr4FPc5g5DUFcr6s73QlyLnPM1uEFyE8r//YBQws3ULTiWU+CScJq12o=&crefiners=|make:Kia|model:Stinger&keyword=2018 KIA

It was most likely a GT2, as they didn’t make Limited Edition GT1s.

Has anyone had a paint issue with their Sunset Yellow after the repaint? Either after you took it in for the recall or if you bought the car after the recall work was done?

Hey Scott, Keith here with the yellow Stinger (we met at Cars & Coffee a few months ago). Why do you ask? Any issue with the car you bought? Strange thing with mine was one day out of nowhere, I noticed the same chip I had with the original paint before it was painted, the drivers side front edge on the hood, a little towards the left when looking out the windshield. I have no idea how that could have happened. Had to use my original touchup paint to cover it. I've also had several rock chips on the hood that are bad. Not sure if it's the fresh paint or it's brittle already. I think the car just needs a wrap to stop this paint mess. Great car but paint is very disappointing.

I remember you bro. I, too, have a potential concern regarding my paint. Question: is your primer white?

Yes it is, white underneath. My chips were small but the paint was chunked off, white primer underneath. See attached pic, chip was in the hood. I am worried it will spread but covered it best I could with touchup paint. What issues do you have? Think you turned yours in and bought another that was repainted?

Are you sure it is white or is that metal?

That is exactly how mine looked under all the issues areas...mine was surrendered to Kia as a buyback.

So Mach what have you changed it to?Sorry if you posted it previously.

I have only one paint chip that's in a strange place, and my primer is white. However, I do have a lifetime warranty on my paint. My paint does however have all sorts of finger prints and smudges on it, I'm assuming it was touched while still drying. I plan on having some paint correction done in the future, which will hopefully rectify the situation.

Anyways, me and another yellow stinger owner are going to the Harper's Cars and Coffee this weekend in Knoxville. Anyone else going?

What bothers me is that this was already repainted, and the service campaign stated that a yellow primer should be used.

Yep, and they knew it was white when they signed off on it. As they have to send pictures of each step once it is complete prior to proceeding, or at least that's my recollection of the SC.

That's unfortunate. They're sending out the District Service Rep to inspect my car again, and then they're going to come up with a solution. We will see how it all goes.

IT Appears that many of us are now having paint troubles as I never escape that paint trouble either ,, I believe that Kia ,must be using only one layer of clear coat ,, this leads to many paint troubles for a lots of us ,, just saying !!! I need a total repaint !

Bro, what he said is absolutely true. I've had more people talk to me at gas stations, stop lights, and parking lots in 3 months than the last 16 years combined. You think people are going to be standing around a Mustang GT, Audi S4, or a 3 series BMW in a parking lot checking it out? Hell no, this has happened to me several times now when I've come out of stores.

If you actually owned a Stinger, you would know that, go troll some other car forum.
I must fully agree I got many thumbs up from others looking ,and asking what type of Kia this is lol Most really like the Stinger looks !!
