Sunroof won't close

Made an appt, but every dealership in my area is saying not til 2nd wk of May. Great.
Are you in Canada or US? I'm thinking about going to Detroit to get mine fixed under the TSB. Let me know how your experience goes.

2nd week of may for the parts, or just to take a look?
Just to get it in and look. I am going to call them again and ask if I send them the TSB, could they just order the parts mentioned now. I will pay for them if they cannot use them/not under warranty. If it was not still under warranty, I would just take to local shop. No idea if dealership will order parts ahead of time or not though. Honestly, I feel like these forums should be required reading for anyone working at a dealership. Half the time, they have no clue but WE do because we are so focused on this one thing, in this case, the car.

At the dealership right now. Been almost 4 hours so far, no update. I did try to have them order the part listed in the TSB (and they did try) but Kia would not allow it until car is looked at....apparently, they have seen this more often now (seems to be a 5-year thing) and have been having to replace the entire assembly, not just the slide. So I will have to return either way which is tough as the closest dealership is an hour from me.

So of course, my luck...they finally updated me, told me it was worst they have seen for a sunroof issue (which is saying something; this dealership is large, has 32 bays and its own body shop)...motor failed on one side, bound up the slide cable and cracked the guides. Need to come back, leave for at least 3 days. Crazy thing is, it was perfectly fine. Closed it one night. Next day, boom, suddenly would not work. No warning, no weird noise, etc. Just broken.

Also, FYI...they said there is an open service action (like a recall, but not) for the brake boosters. They want them all replaced. They are ordering that as well and will have it done when I come back.

Least I got the oil change done. Sigh.

^^Sorry to hear that. Both my G and accord had sunroofs (traditional type), which worked without any issues until the cars were sold (~7-8 years each). Dealership I got the stinger from had several without the audio package (which I later realized didn't include the sunroof either). In retrospect lack of that was a welcome feature.

Brought mine to a different dealer today. They found the track was messed up and ordered the part which should be here Monday. I assume they followed the American TSB even tho I'm in Canada. I'll post their diag/part# when I get them.

No idea why I wasted so much time at the other dealer.... bunch of useless twats.

Great, glad that worked out for you. This dealership seems okay so far....they said that from what they can see it is not just the track, but the motor too. Still waiting on a call to see about bringing it back in.

They ordered part 81650-J5000 .... which is the full drive assembly ($800USD) which includes the TSB quickfix part. I go back Tuesday for install.

Sweet, hoping that is what happens for me. Right now they want me to leave it for at least 3 days so they can take it all apart, see what to order, get it in, repair. Apparently the parts are all close by. They did not do it then because they were afraid that if they took it apart, the glass would break and then I would be stuck. They want to have me come in when they have a loaner for me, which they did not have then (they told me this before I scheduled the appt). It did not bother me too much because I was going to have to come back anyway for the brake booster repair. Just anxious to have it done...the nice weather has finally arrived here and I want to have my sunroof open!

ITS FINALLY FIXED!!!

The first kit came broken so I had to wait an extra day while they overnighted another one. Glad this episode is over. Nervous to use my sunroof but nice to know I have a dealer that can get things done.

Hey that's awesome, congrats! I am still waiting for a call back to come in.

So, this week I brought it in and dropped it off finally...yes, that long. Got a loaner for 3 days. On 2nd day, got called that the car was all set! Drove in the third day to pick it up, they washed it, etc. Looked great. Turned on a/c, let car cool off as I turned in loaner. Came out, pushed the button to open sunroof and 'clack clack crunch'! Still sitting in the spot they had left it for me, pushing button for first time and yup, broken! This time, though, they could not get it to close at all, so one side is up, other down. They had to pull in another rental so I could leave. Honestly do not get how they could not have tested it (they said they did and it opened, closed, tilted, etc. I know they got it to work at least once because the interior cloth cover was closed when I got in. Glad I tried it before leaving. So the odyssey continues....

Yea what the hell is that crap

At least you checked there not after you rolled off the lot

Yeah...always got to check. Thing is, they are considered the best dealership in the area...others are much worse. I had them look at brakes, suspension, etc...came back telling me I can wait a while. Also found a leak in my a/c and fixed that, recharged system free of charge. Just this sunroof thing is a mystery.
