My sunroof is stuck half open... Not front to back, side to side! Using the button it just clicks a lot and returns to this position. The left side won't lift at all. If I hold the button it almost closes all the way but there are gaps. It's supposed to rain tomorrow, dealer better take me or goodbye interior.9420.webp

Tape a plastic sheet over it and then off to dealer. Don't keep fiddling with it otherwise you're likely to cause further damage.....burnt out motor etc.

Dealer took me in right away. Service dude was top notch. Says he browses here, so if you see this, thanks so much man!

So what was the problem? And what was the fix. Am having a similar problem with the sunroof not opening on my GT2 ... drivers side rear corner of sunroof appears to be stuck down and wont' lift up or slide back.

I went on vacation and I needed my wheels. Dealer hit the "mostly closed" position with a pressure washer and no water was getting in so I took my car back. I'm bringing it back this week or next and I'll update with their findings.

Tell them its the sunroof motor, same exact thing happened to me. It could also be the cable slipping, but my dealer said they replaced the motor and it was good to go

its weird cus the sunroof still moves a little, right? But apparently the motor was the issue

They replaced the entire sunroof assembly, frame including glass. They were concerned it would shatter when they took it out so they ordered everything (back ordered btw.). They had a body shop do it because apparently there's a lot of glue involved.

Hey, i’m having the same exact issue on my gt2 what did they do exactly, they are telling me that they need to remove the windshield to remove the headliner and it might break so they will order a new windshield, hopefully it doesn’t damage my car badly i am very worried about it. They said they haven’t seen anything like it.

Soooo. The dealer is afraid they’ll break the front glass… while removing the headliner that’s held in with clips… to replace the sunroof.

Holy Jesus mother Mary.

Exactly what it says in my last post. Sunroof frame assembly and glass at a body shop. I'm not sure if the dealer dropped the headliner before sending to the body shop. They didn't touch my windshield. Very strange. Are you sure they werent referring to the sunroof glass?

It's worked ever since but it can clunk a bit in the tilted position over bumps. Full open or full close its fine. Amazed they didnt fix the ticking under the headliner when they had it dropped.

Yea i know it’s crazy so they gave it back to me they still couldn’t fix it so i took it down to a dealership in Miami and they said they can have it done and it was supposed to be an easy fix but now they are saying they have to wait 1-2 weeks give or take so kia can “approve” the repair.

No they were referring to the actual windshield, they gave it back to me and they couldn’t fix it, so i took it down to a dealership in Miami and they told me that the dealership where I was at (Regal Kia in Lakeland, Florida) were doing the job badly and made it worse and that the sunroof issue would’ve been easy to fix if Regal Kia didn’t mess it up. I left regal kia and there was a metallic clinking noise whenever i would tap the headliner around where the sunroof motor was and they forgot to put back a trim piece that covers the mirrors wires. Like Regal did a horrible job, the guy working on my car was watching an anime on netflix on his phone while repairing my car, now the Kia dealership in miami needs to wait for an approval from Kia to get it fixed because the last dealership messed it up and if there was a problem because of that, the kia in miami wouldn’t want to be held accountable.

this is just nuts.

There seems to be an absolute issue with the sunroofs in the Stingers. I purchased a certified pre-owned 2021 Stinger GT2 AWD from a Kia dealer with 8k miles on it. Less than two weeks after I bought it the sunroof stopped working. The passenger side rear corner wouldn't close all the way and the entire unit stop functioning. I took it back to the dealership immediately. They ended up sending it to a body shop. The body shop ended up ordering a new complete assembly with glass. I was told they had to literally cut the old sunroof out due to the adhesives and how it was bolted in during the original construction. Today I heard they had to remove the windshield during the replacement process. They needed a glass specialist company to come in and do much of the work, including coming back to re-install the windshield. I have been without my car for over 4 weeks now. I'm being told it will be fully cured and ready next week. I filed a complaint with Kia corporate. They have come back and offered to make two of my car payments for me, but they want me to sign a waiver that releases them of all liabilities on the car if I accept. The warranty will still be in place, but this makes me very nervous.

Howdy and welcome to your nightmare, too (this is a day for intros that are horror stories). I wouldn't take the payments if that means giving up warranty claims on this job.

And no, the Stinger does not have issues with the sunroof. Individual vehicles have issues. Sorry yours is one of them, but hopefully everything will be perfect when this is done.

Thats so crazy they are touching the windshield... WHY? As far as I know, they didn't touch mine. 4 WEEKS?! The body shop did mine in a day.

Initial impression without knowing every detail of these stories... it sounds like service department(s) and/or body shop(s) bilking Kia by inflating the repair complexity, parts needed, and labor involved.

Related but off topic note -- this is one of several reasons I avoid, whenever I can, purchasing a car with a sunroof. It was on my short list of undesirables when looking at the local Kia stock when shopping for my Stinger.

I love my sunroof, as long as its not iced over, I use it. We appreciate the warm sun in Canada. I'm sure in Vegas you despise it. :)

One of the reasons I went for the extended warranty... among all the other doodads in the stinger. I predict the motors in the mirrors will go some day.

The sun from May through September is definitely not your friend here, but that's very little to do with my reasons. I've only lived in Vegas for the last 3.5 years, in a colder / wetter place the other 43.
