• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Stingers on the Dragon 2020

It's about 8.5 hours away for me, but it sounds awesome! Watching this thread.

Finished creating some clean art. Anyone interested in getting some apparel made or have had good experience with an online screen printer?

I’m in the Raleigh area and interested. Have only been on the Dragon’s Tail once with a 2005 Acura TL.

The artwork looks dope. Very nice job.

I don't have experience with any online printers, but if I had to I would start with Custom Ink. They seem legit, online quoting, and hoodies start around $22 each for orders of 20 basic Hanes styles.

Side note - I went out Saturday and carved up some north GA mountain roads. Managed to get a lot of head turns and had fun chasing a group of guys running FoST/Miata/Mazdaspeed 3. Can't wait to see how the Dragon runs!

Thanks. I've got the hoodie above on order through RushOrderTees. We'll see how it turns out...

Hello fellow enthusiasts!

I'm beginning to finalize a group outing to the tail of the dragon. I'm hoping we can get a good turnout for the first one!

I will update this page as new information is confirmed. Let me know if your interested.

I am looking at a weekend in April (16-19/23-26) to try and make this happen. This is a preliminary schedule:

Thursday
AM: Travel
PM: Check-In, Hangout, Evening runs

Friday
AM: Driver Meeting, Drive!
PM: Drive!, Check-In, Group dinner

Saturday:
AM: Driver Meeting, Group photo, Drive!
PM: Drive!, Group dinner

Sunday:
AM: Check-out, Breakfast
PM: Get home safe!

-I have reached out to a few places to get some group rates for rooms, stay tuned.
-I was thinking of having a small registration fee to maybe get some shirts/stickers made.
-I will hopefully have a website up soon with all the information but will use the forums and facebook as well to communicate.
-If anyone would like to help planning please let me know. My normal day job keeps me pretty busy so anyone that can help let me know!
-I'm sure we have some creative people in this group that can come up with a cool logo for the shirts and stickers... let me know!

I put out a feeler survey a few months back... if you would like to add your opinion please do!
Stingers on the Dragon
Thanks for putting this together PJ. Southeast owners really need a big meet!

Any updates on scheduling info or the survey results?

Still working with the hotel to find a good weekend to make it work and to try and avoid other big car group weekends so its not packed... Ive been there on the Mazda Miata weekend and it was crazy.

Let me see a way to post the survey results... if i cant link it i will post it the hard way :)

Also just as a heads up, I will do my best to stay on top of responding and getting info out as quickly as i can... I want to do my best to make this a fun time for all of us to get together. I do have a company to run and a new infant :) so I might not respond as quickly as I would like to.

Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to this and we will make year 1 a great time and build the next few years on top of it.

It's crazy every weekend from spring thru fall. We normally reserve Dragon runs for early morning or late evening, and head out to enjoy the abundance of other great roads and scenery in the area.

I'm intimately familiar with the area (roads, sights and dining) if anyone is looking for suggestions.

My one-off sweatshirt arrived in the mail yesterday. Very happy with the result. The quality of the sweatshirt itself is very nice - heavy weight and soft lining, and the 1-color print held the detail nicely.

Guess now I HAVE to hit the TotD at least sometime this year.

BTW, the last shot is just before I sat on and broke my sunglasses! This is why I don't buy expensive pairs anymore.

I'm pretty sure I could make it the first weekend you suggested. I'm coming from far east NC, so I could collect any other NC-ers on my way. I grew up in Blount County TN (the county most of the Dragon is in) so am very familiar with the area, and cut my driving teeth on the Dragon in an '88 Ranger 4x4, a '94 Eclipse non-Turbo, and a '98 Contour SVT.

Thursday evening/early Friday morning are the best times to bomb the Dragon. All day Saturday and Sunday it turns into a parking lot. Fine for a cruise, but frustrating if you want to get enthusiastic.

I recommend an end-to-end run on Foothills Parkway (one end empties out onto U.S. 129 just a little ways from the start of the Dragon), since they just recently opened the Missing Link section. The old section is a beautiful drive with a series of constant-radius 60mph curves. It's an easy road to drive quickly; must less technically demanding as the Dragon, and therefore fun and relaxing.

Also, Happy Valley is a nice low-traffic mountain road one turn up from Foothills Parkway that runs from the lake over the ridge and down into Maryville.

There's some great driving on the NC side of Deals Gap, too.

I just responded to the survey. A suggestion: Friday through Monday/Saturday through Tuesday? I'm willing to bet the Dragon is DESERTED on Monday and Tuesday vs. contending with other enthusiast groups Thursday/Friday?

Depending on the group rate for the hotel, I might end up staying with my Mom in Alcoa, especially if I bring the wife and kids. Free is always better than cheap.

I'm excited!

I think making a rally for the rally would be pretty fantastic though, as some of you perviously suggested!

Sounds like anytime but the weekend is fine. I found Tuesday to be friendly enough; very moderate traffic. In some places it looked like I had the road to myself.
