Stinger Owners.....what other cars made your final list?

We had a lot of choices if willing to consider a low mileage used car as an option, but my wife was steadfast that she had to have a new car. She wanted another E class MB, but agreed a new one was too much, especially with the maintenance expenses. She did not want a C class but thought a Cadillac might work for her. Cadillacs are not bad cars but a loaded mid size sedan with a 6 cylinder engine would go well over $50K out the door, and I knew I would not be happy with anything less. The latest safety features were also a must, not an option. I really wanted to buy a car for cash, so had set $50K OTD as a maximum and there seemed to be a lot of good choices in the $40K range.

My top pick was the Genesis G70 3.3T, but Carol said she could not see well over the hood and a new one with all of the bells and whistles looked like it would be hard to find at $50K out the door, so it was scratched from the list. Second on my list, was the Stinger GT. We found a new 2019 RWD GT2 in a color we could agree upon, Panthera gray with light gray interior for under $40K and this checked all of my boxes and Carol thought she could live with it, but was disappointed we bought a Kia, after having come from a Mercedes.

I considered a Grand Touring Honda Accord, but Carol would not even look at one. Although we had good luck with 2 Accords in the past, she wanted something different. She liked the Grand Touring Mazda CX5 and I was interested in the Mazda 6 Signature edition, although the latter was reported to be a bit dated since it has not been redesigned lately. My buddy has a loaded CX5 which I have driven and like, but did not think I would enjoy driving one nearly as well as the Stinger 3.3T. I have owned BMWs in the past and feel they are too expensive for what you get and also maintenance is expensive. Ditto for the Audi, so they did not make my list. I like the VWs, especially the Golf R and GTI but Carol had no interest. I considered the Arteon, but really wanted to avoid German cars with their high cost of parts and maintenance.

We have owned our 2019 Stinger GT2 now since January 18, 2020 and I have no regrets. Even Carol is admitting she likes the way it drives, but she thinks the styling is old fashion looking. I disagree and think it is especially well styled for a 4 door hatchback. Moreover, I love how it drives. Great handling and acceleration in a practical design, all for $43K OTD. I may have preferred the Genesis G70 because it is shorter and may handle a tad sharper and I really like its quilted seats. But it does not have the carrying capacity of our hatchback and rear leg room is tight, so the Stinger is more practical and still our best choice, since our other car is a Corvette.
Ron do us a favour ,let us extol the vitues of the Stinger to Carol , put her on and go and put your feet up. I think we are collectively better equipt to deal with this.:D Im calling a code "Pearl white"
@westcoastGT , @MerlintheMad .

S5 and A7, but after driving a VW GTi for 10 years, I just don't like how Audi has the gas pedal tuned, it's really sluggish from a stop even I'm sport mode. And I think the shape of the Stinger just kills them at the price point.

She likes the Mazda 6 but thinks the Stinger is old fashioned? Hmmmmm
Which model Vette?
Carol liked the CX5, not the Mazda 6. She liked the seating position and being able to see from the front perch. My Vette is a 2011 Coupe in Crystal Red Metallic and beige interior. It is the LT3 with an automatic trans and 60K miles.

I am constantly singing the praises of our Stinger. As much as Carol likes to complain about its lack of cred, she cannot deny it has the power and really does enjoy driving it. Unfortunately, she thinks I drive it like the hooligan I am at heart.

Chevy SS
ATS-V
S5 Sportback
M3
(None of these were affordable/available new).

The SS was the closest. If it had better tech and was on the alpha platform, I'd be on their forums instead.

That's an eclectic list my friend! M3 /ATS-v both sedan format I assume? How long have you had you Stinger now; satisfied; mods?

The Chevy SS is an incredible car — but it is about to become extinct
What a review! Almost like describing a Stinger; and right as the Stinger was coming on-stage and the SS was exiting, stage left. Strange to be reading this now: I had no awareness of cars, really, when this was written. Everything about car enthusiasm was "meh", back then (pre-Stinger). Now: I'd love to drive one of these in standard tranny mode. The trunk is probably big enough; I'd miss the hatch, though. "Roomy back seats"? Okay, probably as good as the Stinger's. So, the practicality is MOSTLY there. I like the idea of retro including a NA V8. I don't care about the MPG. The price was/is spot on. Admittedly, the Stinger is more of a looker. But so many design cues are similar. And, Brembo brakes. :D If I couldn't have a Stinger, this car, had I known, and had it really been available, would suit for GT style road trips and for "passing fast". But, the Stinger is just as good in all the areas that the SS is good, and just a bit better in most.

I'm tamer.....the GT side of the Stinger being posh and comfy with bells n whistles was my draw......full-out muscle isn't my need or desire.....I'm refining as I age

But you know I'm keeping this Stinger for at least 7yrs , right?
Good decision. I'm keeping mine "for the duration", whatever that ends up being.

(To rehearse my attitude about keeping vehicles: when I found and bought my Plymouth Voyager, it was a 5 on the floor - super rare! - MY94, low miles and in great cosmetic shape; I said, "I'm keeping this van till I die or it dies". Well, I broke that promise: I kept it after it died and had the head rebuilt; the thing ran better after that than when I bought it. Then, along came the Stinger and I sold the "resurrected" van: otherwise, I'd still have it and no doubt it would be more like a hot rod by now. )

Nice. i used to drive one of these in 84 as a parts delivery driver for the local auto parts store. Copper color all seats but mine removed. Ironically the name of the store was TNT Auto Parts

I was pretty seriously considering a Tesla Model 3, but with getting the car that I wanted (performance pack, AWD version with the self driving computer) just got to be out of my price range a bit. Overall, I am SUPER happy I went with the Stinger.

Haven't driven yet..... only lurked from afar....I'm retiring within the next 3 months or so ... transitioning to a different lifestyle; 53 years old and struggling with the internal debate of fun to drive vs posh/ comfy..... and the struggle is REAL! Lol
47 yr old just bought 2020. Comfy and fun. Best of both

I talked my sister into getting a model 3. It’s pretty sweet. Even the standard awd car hauls ass. Just can’t stand the front end.

but the farking instant torque. Gd. It is a beast. Would love the performance model.

After having mostly practical cars (Honda Accord, Volkswagen Jetta, Honda CRV, and Mazda Protege), I wanted something that was quick and fun and had looks. I looked at the Civic Type R, Genesis G70, and BMW 3 series.

The 2020 Type R wasn't out by December 2019 and there wasn't even an announcement for its release. I went to a Genesis dealer and really liked the Siberian Ice white G70 but they weren't willing to deal. BMW was far more than I wanted to pay.

So I saw the huge discounts folks were getting on the Stinger and started looking at them. I actually prefer the Stinger over the G70 because you have far more cargo space in the back and more space for rear seat passengers. I really like the looks of my HiChroma Red GT2 and all the luxury features.

The Stinger is definitely more practical than the Genesis, and the Type R is rarely sold without tacking on a premium because they are scarce/ in demand. From what I have read, the new 3 series BMW is a great car, but equipped like a GT2 would cost as much as $20k more considering the discounts available on the Stinger. For me, the 2019 Stinger GT2 we just bought for $43K out the door was a no brainer.

Agreed, I didn't want to pay more than MSRP on a Type R and I got a 2019 GT2 for the same price with taxes. It has so many features that I didn't care about (memory seats, heated steering wheel, etc.) that I didn't care about but now that I have them I appreciate them.
