Track/Course Stinger - A Track Day Review

I live in GA and have done track time at road atlanta years ago.BTW I was told by Brembo--and by a service tech at KIA that the rotors are not performance rotors--just bigger versions of normal ones--and that they--in their current state are not meant for track use like you did.I am curious to any follow up--did the rotors warp or have any problems afterwords.I plan on getting performance rotors--I beat the crus out of R1 rotors about a decade ago at road ATL and had no problems--no warp--and waiting for them to make em for the stinger.KIA should have never put brembos on there without high end rotors to match--it is misleading and there are reports of warp issues without folks tracking.AAlso--any turbo car is going to heat up on a track--just the nature--I would only goto the track--if ever in my stinger--in the winter.

I just did a track day at Toronto Motorsports Park. Did 3 sets of 3 laps and the stock break and rotors worked ok as long as I did proper cool down laps, otherwise they would vibrate everytime I brake.. On the last lap I got out and parked it without cooling them enough and I guess the brake fluid reached its temperature limit. It took around an hour for the breaks to cool down. After driving for a week I did not notice any vibration unless I pushed too hard. I think the rotors are fine but the pads need to be replaced with something that can operate at I higher temperature.

I just ordered Geomet R! brake rotors for all 4 rotors.I had the eline on my last car and they made a huge difference.I have no clue if I will track my stinger--but my previous experience with R1 was great and had them for several years. The geomet has a 9 out of 10 for cooling and durability as apposed to a 7 out of 10 for the eline. Our KIA--and this is just my opinion because the rotors are just a bigger stock oem rotor and not a Brembo--probably rates at about a 5 out of 10--.If we had a full Brembo--I doubt you would have needed that many cooldown laps.I wrongly assumed that we had rotors similar to a ZL1 camaro--which has Brembo level rotors that are not cross drilled or slotted--but are heavy duty for track use.I am having KIA put them on cause I do not want problems--and most of the complaints with R1 is the folks that put them on themselves. I was suggested R1 in the honda forum years ago--and several folks had used them on s2000s and many had tracked hard and had no problems.I did some hi speed braking several times and had no fade or issues.I will post a video in a few weeks on this.

BTW I paid 359 dollars for them after finding a 20% off on ebay that they matched--I read the technical stats and they seem great.they are made of carbon alloy instead of zinc and cast iron and are more durable--stronger--dissipate heat better--rated to 400 c--or 750 F--I think our Brembo pads are up to 650 to 700 F--so the pads would melt before the rotors--but at that temp you would have a fire and be way over the limit even on a track--the caliper would probably have to get stuck and you drive for a lap or 2 before that happened.BTW--the R! bite hard in cold and rainy weather without any warmup is also what I remember most.

Nice afternoon with my Kia Stinger GT at Bilster Berg racetrack (08.08.2021).
Two stints (3 & 5)
The installed brakesystem-cooling (see attached pic) was successful. Also the "Ferodo DS Performance" brakepads.
Now the brakesystem with steel braided brake hose and DOT5.1-fluid is ready to race.
Eibach strut bars and finetuning the Mando ECS10 special for the BilsterBerg was good for 2 seconds.
But the Federal 595RS PRO are now "end of live"...
Big fun on this "little Nürburgring" ;)
See it on youtube (gEirD_Ud3nM and 4gF-vJtV1z0)

...next features to be faster are: to lighten the car. (goto toilet and dont eat anything before)

how did it handle and what is your drivetrain? :)

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
In Europe, the GT is always AWD.
About handling:
- Best combo is Mando, StrutBars and tires (SemiSlicks)
- But the weight is THE factor. 2t are not amused to go thru corners (kinetic energy...)

With any updates the Stinger will never be a "Tracktool", but with my Stinger it was very exiting to drive the track
In the video you cant see/feel how hard the Stinger brakes or how the tires are screaming.
My tracktime is not so bad if compared with other (sports-)cars ;);)

Thanks for sharing. Great video. I watched the whole thing. Did you open your sunroof at 6:32?

You showed the Mustang; lapped him three times. :D

As has been said, thanks for sharing that. Great viewing!

And what a great track! Looks like a lot of fun..

Can't wait to get back out on the track.
