Purchased my Stinger yesterday after selling my Evo X, and was always told to never run staggered wheel setups on an AWD car however after viewing the wheel fitment thread I noticed almost no one is running a square setup on their AWD. Is it okay to run a staggered setup on this car? I want to go 9.5 wide on wheels. Is there a fitment issue I'm missing or is it just preference people are going going with wider rear tires/wheels?

Stock setup on the GT and above is staggered whether RWD or AWD.

Yes, stock setup is already staggered so KIA's engineering team seems to be okay with it. The car is a rear biased AWD system so that probably helps.

Uh? Are you sure? Unless it was just a package on my car, I just double checked and the tire sizes are the exact same front and back. Cant imagine they'd go the same tire on two different width wheels

Sounds like you got the 225 18" all seasons? Summer tires are 225/255 19 inch on AWD - that's what mine came with. This year, went to 245/285 on 18" Enkei TY-5s.

Yea that has to be it. I was about to call up the dealership right now asking why the hell I have 18" wheels when it comes with 19". Appreciate the clarification

not necessarily. I believe it depends on location. my 2019 GT AWD came with a square setup. 225's all around. will be changing to a staggered setup when I get new wheels though

Interesting. Not surprised it might be different internationally but surprised it varies within the US.

9.5 will require spacers in front (so I gather from reading here); no fitment issues in the back. I run 8.5 wide wheels in front and 9.5 in the rear; 225/255 tires. So, some stretch. Handles really well.

I think it's regional - in southern states, the 19" summers, in regions with real winter, you get the 225-18 AS and the 139 MPH speed governor..

Yup you got the 18" all-season tire package with the lower top speed limiter 139mph instead of 168mph.

Just to clarify a bit more: it depends on wheel diameter. Many RWD staggered setups come with DIFFERENT wheel/tire diameters. For AWD, you have to keep the wheel diameter within 1-3% (1% preferred) for front and back - you'll have to use lots of tire calculators :-) OEM 19s are 26.1", my non-OEMs are 25.7/25.6 or something. They don't have to be 26.1 - just front and back diameters have to be close to each other.

If you use square setups, this is almost never an issue, so you don't have to think about it, which is probably why it's a rule-of-thumb given to people with AWD. If you run square, you can't easily get into trouble. If you run staggered, you have to do some work up-front..

I can say from experience that my car with 18" 225mm all season square setup does NOT have a limit of 139mph. So you can have one without the other

What year, and what does your door jamb say? It's possible the dealer swapped tires with someone wanting the 19 summers on their car.. IIRC, I think also (some early?) 2018s may have come with 225s without the governor..

its a 2019 model. door jam says 225/45r18 front and rear

How much over 139 mph did you take it? You would be the first case I've heard of having a car with a speed limiter higher than the OEM tires are rated. It's actually a legal issue for that dealer.

ummm... a little bit
I hit 144 and let off. it was still climbing. so I'm sure it would have continued. Oh, and I was on a track, of course :)

I thought that the OEM A/S squared setup was/is governed at 130 MPH top speed.

Just to make sure I have what you're saying correctly, if running a staggered setup I'll want to ensure the circumference of the wheel(including tire) are relatively the same (within 1-3%) correct? Im assuming this is because otherwise the front and rear tires will be spinning at different speeds. Therefore something like a 245/40 up front and a 265/50 in the back would be a no go even if the wheel sizes are both 19" (with different widths)

here's are a couple things you might find helpful to see what sizes people are running.
