I feel you. Bought one for my wife. Not impressed. But she loves it, so I suppose that's a good thing. Honestly, I prefer my 2011 normally aspirated Sonata over the Stinger. To each his own, I suppose.

Is that the 2011 Sonata with the imploding crankcase rods and bearings and officially rated “clunker” or “avoid at all costs” on carcomplaints.com?

I have a 2013 sonata with an extended warranty to 120,000 miles on the engine thanks to that. If it lasts that long then I will get rid of it. Good luck with yours!!

If my Stinger lasts to lease end it will be the last Hyundai or Kia I ever buy.

Yeah, he ended up buying one.

Does this mean you aren't a fan of the Stinger now?

I’m not a fan of Kia or Hyundai. The car is great as long as it lasts, but I will not be buying out my lease as I had anticipated. Who knows, miracles happen but for now I’ve lost any confidence in Hyundai/Kia Build Quality.

Very strange, since they are rated tops for quality. Dealer experience? Not so much.

I have had zero problems with my 2011.

Yes, the 2.0 has launch control. I own one and have tried it.

around here? Nowhere. The roads are to twisty and clogged with slow left lane drivers.
Do not activate or attempt to use launch control unless you have been trained by an appropriate, sanctioned auto racing organization and are operating on an approved race surface. To activate launch control, ensure there are no obstacles within a hundred yards of the front of your car. Switch to sport mode. Then hold down on the ESC button for three seconds .If you're watching the center display, you will see two stability control features confirm that they are deactivated. (I forget what they are called) Then you should see something about launch control ready. To use the system, "power brake the car". If that term doesn't make sense to you, you basically press and hold the brake, followed by pressing the accelerator. As soon as the RPMs hit approximately 3k, release the brake.

You mean Hyundai Sonata ? I had one too old model 96-98 ^^

... was the first my car and with a damage to engine .. :(
my dad gave him to me so I have a car to drive - he bought another car for himself ..
The engine failed after a longer trip (moved the car not often and pushed it over the limits..) - rust everywhere .. dad sold it for 50€ .. made me angry but well - it was his car of course - could get more money on the scrapyard
- whatever
Was a great car anyway .. but the cars of Hyundai and Mitsubishi rust fast from the bottom line. Brakes / wheel holders first..
My exhaust a heat shield is also cracking sometimes while I drive, the screws and everything around it are rusted after 7-8 years

Somebody told me that the Korean cars have more trash metal mixed in, that’s why they rust faster and more than German cars - is that true ? I mean .. hah.. funny .. a German who never had a German car asks you for your experience with German cars .. - yeah so.. (it just came in my mind .. it’s not topic isn’t it ?..sorry :x )

You are very fortunate. I forgot to mention I had a 2014 Santa Fe that actually had a new short block installed free of charge due to this same problem. My son totaled it a few months later but was OK.

That's nuts. I have owned an Elantra, an Accent, this Sonata, my one daughter owns an Optima, the other one owns a Tucson. Not one problem with amy of those cars. I'm glad your son waa ok. Nobody will ever argue survivability in these cars.

Thanks. It was election night 2016 and he went off the Blue Ridge Parkway (never usually a good outcome) in the Santa Fe and, fortunately, a tree stopped the car from continuing to roll over. The tree caved in the roof down to the window sill level. He was knocked out briefly but walked away with only bruises. He now drives a 2012 Subaru Outback!! I just hope the Stinger lasts since I need something positive. The other Kia’s and Hyundai’s are just inconveniences, but I should count my blessings for not having any other engines blowup on me besides the Santa Fe.

If it wasn't for bad luck...... Lol. One thing about bad times, they eventually get better.
