Considering going to 18" squared setup on my awd gt2. Wanting a bit more sidewall rubber as the roads around here can be a little brutal. And recently seeing posts of busted tires on social groups has just reinforced the thought. Let me know what you got and how you like the setup.

Thanks in advance.

245/40-18 20240829_122703.webp it came with 18 inch wheels, so I don't know how it is compared to 19.

We run nothing but 18", for both Road & Track. 225/45 (OEM), 235/45, 245/40 and 255/40. All work well. All our ENkei and Konig flow-formed wheels weight 18-21 lbs each.

I went to a squared setup last year and been loving it so far. See this post:

Looks great! This is exactly what I plan on doing.

Was about to pull the trigger but saw something on Reddit saying that 18x8.5 +35 is cutting it too close for clearance; I guess they were misinformed.

With that said, the Enkei's I am now looking at only come in +38 or +25; thoughts?

I put a lot of faith in Tirerack, which indicated these wheels would fit. I then searched these forums and Reddit to see if anyone else had a similar setup.

The most caution I saw was more about the tire choice than the wheels. Some people said not all 255 with tires are the same size on reality, so some would rub while others don't. Thankfully my tires dont rub.

Tirerack does show a +38mm offset can work but you never know how it all comes together until you try. Sorry I can't give definitive answer.

18x8.5 +35 should do just fine for tires up to 255/40R18. Realistically, that is the practical limit on 18x8.5 anyway. Yes you can fit wider tires on 8.5, but they wouldn't be well supported by the rim, so handling starts to degrade.

We ran 255/40R18 on Enkei TFR 18x8.5 ET38 for a good while. Clearance was closer, but as long as they clear, what's the issues? If anything, I tend to prefer slightly higher offset and correct with spacer as appropriate. You can run 3mm or 5mm spacers on the front wheels for an effective ET35 or ET33, both within 1mm of the stock ET34. We've done both. Just make sure you get hubcentric spacers (with a center lip ring). I would avoid the ET25 wheel.
