Should I buy a GT-line with sunroof?

1. As soon as the air hits up in the 50s, I use mine a lot.
2. The design of the structure accounts for the sunroof. What about convertibles? This is the second most silly objection.
3. This is the most silly objection. "Aerodynamics"? Really? I don't even use mine above c. 55 mph. Conversation? What about convertibles, again?
4. Yes, something on it will break sooner or later. And expense remains to be seen. That's what warranties are for. Kia rocks.
5. 70 lbs or so is too much? Okay. (I was about to write something snarky about where you can shed 70 lbs, but forbearance gained the upper hand.)
6. This is the third silliest objection. This is not a race car. Anyone intending to race a Stinger will pick one without a sunroof.
7. This is just a stupid objection, because it is false. I've never seen a sunroof that slides back INSIDE the cabin. Headroom is the same in both versions of the Stinger.
8. He could have a point here, especially since he wouldn't even take a free sunroof if it were offered.

Whether you believe it or not, the fact is that it adds weight. It’s a useless feature for me and if I had to pay to have it, I’d pass.

Don’t forget that it’s a Grand Tourer, not a weight shedding track car. I dare to say that it’s weight woud make zero real world difference.

All of this is wrong actually. Do some research. They definitely do cut headroom, they impact structural integrity, and they add weight. The larger ones in excess of 100 lbs.

Thinking to order a 2019 Kia 2.0 GT-Line with Panorama Premium Pack. Should I avoid the sunroof option? Anyone here living in cold, climate like Canada or Sweden that can share his experience with a Kia sunroof?

Had a Mini Cooper S with sunroof and it started to rattle but only in the winters (used car). Was not keeping it in a garage. BMW quoted 1,700€ to fix it. Sold the car.

Had a Peugeot 207cc with folded panorama roof (new car). On its third year, it started to make a small noise where the plastic touches on the metal. Was keeping it in a garage. Peugeot was able to fix it with 50€ but not permanently. Sold the car later.

Please advise, as I am about to order the car in the next couple of weeks. Kia said the warranty covers the sunroof. The reason I'd like to have it is the dark-glass-look which I think looks awesome!
Suomalainen! Hei!
I live in Michigan. It's not quite Finland weather (although I am just starting to to think about swapping off my winter wheels/tires on since Nov 7.), but I would not hesitate to get a sun roof. I bought my Stinger last May, and I've had no problems whatsoever. Like with my other cars with sunroofs, I think I probably enjoy a sunroof more than folks who live in warm weather climes. Even though we don't have the opportunity to open it as much, after our long winters, we just appreciate the sun and the sunroof more. Plus, we don't have a super-hot sun beating down us when it's open.
(BTW - both of my grandmothers were Finn. Sisu! And my wife is 100% Finn. Even more Sisu.:D)

"All" of this is wrong?

The Stinger is a new platform from the ground up. You think Biermann et al. don't know how to design around a hole? What the heck is the HATCH? That single utility feature, practical feature, required serious design to avoid chassis flex. You think a sunroof would give them problems?

The car is designed to do a number of things well, and nothing the best; unless it's looks. :D The weight of the sunroof is balanced by the solid, low gravity of the design. The sunless roof trims are better performers, but less pleasing as a grand touring experience. Compromise. Go with what you find most important, etc.

As already said, in real terms nobody is going to notice a thing different in the ride (unless they get a creaky, crackly sunroof). The car is not going to lean, powering through a corner, in any way that will compromise handling or comfort.

70 lbs is almost no difference in a car weighing either side of 4K lbs. We don't need to compare sunroof sizes. This is about Stingers.

I enjoy my sunroof in all seasons. In AUS it adds 100kg or so to the GT(2) but so what. If I wanted to say save fuel on weight reduction or accelerate faster I'd start with removing the Owner's Manual, followed by rear seats, door trims, space saver spare wheel, jack, and so on.

I've thought of the short answer: If you asked the question in the first place, you should avoid a sunroof.

Only drivers who know that they want a sunroof should get one.

(That said, if my experience with mine ever turns sour, I'll probably regret their existence and the temptation. But so far, only joy.)

Read again, he said the rear passenger headroom is compromised because the sunroof slides back to the inside of the car. None I have ever seen do this so the rear headroom is the same with the sunroof open or closed.

They steal headroom. That roof has to go someplace when it’s open, and that’s usually right to where the rear seat passengers keep their foreheads

Really? Im curious how the soon roof would weight 100kg? Is that only in straya? If that is true that seem a lot for glass and the mechanism.

Yeah that's not really how it opens but in general a sunroof reduces headroom as the panel and the mechanism to open it are sunk into the roof which creates a lowered headliner. A large one would reduce rear passenger headroom.

It's a large sunroof that has to have a heavy duty mechanism to slide it open and keep it secured against wind buffeting. I'm surprised it's only 100kg.

Jeez.. so much hate..

Part of why I never even considered the base GT was the lack of sunroof. Love (and use) mine - as I have on every vehicle I've owned in the USA except a '97 Grand Caravan, and only one of them - my 2003 F150 which I've owned since new - has had issues with the mechanism. No creaks, leaks or rattles. I think I'm up to 15 in 27 years?

To the OP - only you can know whether it's "worth it" - if you like a sunroof, get a vehicle with one. That's what most of us do.

It's not really a panoramic roof is it....more like a large single pane roof. The only time I've heard any noise from mine is on a really cold day (-15c) when it was squeaking when I first drove it in the morning.

Mine is the base GT without the sunroof...but I am happy with it the way I use the car and I do not miss for not having it....of course some days I wish it have the sunroof, but for most days, I don't care to have it. All it come down to is personal preference. Be happy for what you get.

Gt-Line with premium pack is all you Need if 255hp are enough for you

mine is the same - no sunroof. Now after 8 Month I'm like: the next car will have one.
But when I bought the car I was not willing to pay for the sunroof and I'm not mad at all

If the GT had a sunroof option I might have gone with that trim instead of the GT1. Is the only thing in the package the sunroof?

2.0L EU Stinger Comes with 2 different packages.
the first one: headet seats rear, cooled front, HK, Auto boot, LED lights, cornering light and 19" wheels (2900€)
second one requires the first one and adds : wireless charging, 360°cam, blind spot... and adaptive dampening.(2400€)
the sunroof is extra and can be added without any requirement (690€)
same as the leather colour (0€)
you can pick every exterior colour aswell (690€)

German Prices obviously :D

Harman Kardon 15 speaker surround sound. The GT has factory 9 speaker stereo. Both of these are why I have a GT1.

Yeah sound system is amazing, but number one difference for me was the adaptive dampening. Sure I wanted the sunroof but the difference between GT and GT1 included lots of other goodies. If the only difference had been the sunroof then maybe not.
