Short shifting???

Hello. I've noticed that in my Kia Stinger GT, as soon as it gets to 2000 RPMs it is automatically shifting into next gear. So it will shift through the first 3 gears in like 3 seconds. It may be a stupid question but I don't know if something is wrong or not.

Mode? Sport mode shifts later (at higher RPM). Eco is the lowest, "shortest" shifting mode; Comfort a close second. If you floor the go pedal you won't get out of 1st gear at 2K in any mode, trust that. The "kickdown" is engaged if you press an already floored accelerator and the trans will engage the maximum lowest gear for current speed and demanded acceleration.

I'm talking comfort mode just driving regularly. Like for example you're driving through town and coming out of a stop light you hit the gas. It seems like it almost short shifts to me with how quickly it shifts through the first couple gears which seems to be happening around 2000 RPM

Just drive in sports mode. I had a hard time even keeping the rpm above 2K in comfort while breaking in the first 600 miles.

You have 8 gears in eco/comfort your going to go through the first 3 pretty quickly unless like someone said you have it floored, then just hold on.

I bet you haven't engaged "kickdown" yet. That'll keep you churning out the RPMs! You can always use the paddle shifters too. That's a great way to kick up the RPMs as high as you want for as long as you want (well, unless you redline, then the car takes over ). Your GT has "manual gate", which makes the paddle shifters (or the "T" shifter for that matter) very convenient to use. And fun too.

Oh, and if you are still in the first 600 miles "break in" period, staying in Sport is the easy way to keep your RPMs above 2000.

Nothing is wrong. Press pedal harder, it will shift later.

The control systems optimize shift points based on engine load. From a full-stop, the lower gears can accelerate this vehicle with very little load on the engine, so it shifts to maintain efficiency. Go watch any number of YouTube videos of cars running under full throttle, where it will stay in first gear until around 40mph/6000RPM for the entire two seconds it takes to get there.
