Shift knob replacement?

Hi everyone. Has anyone replace the "T" shift knob (non drive-by-wire) with an aftermarket part? I've only seen one replacement option out there, but can't imagine that other options don't exist.

Apparently the knob is kept on by friction, so it's not hard to remove. On my S4 it was a PITA to R&R the stock shift knob with a replacement that didn't look like it belonged on a 90's Chevy. This one looks easier to swap, but I'm not sure what's available.

Thanks!

Thanks, cowboy. That's the drive by wire, which I like better than the T bar in the other models. What I'm thinking about is a full swap, where the entire knob comes off and is replaced by another one. I saw a carbon fiber option but think that would look odd without any other CF - not to mention that the shape of the handle was still the same. Just wondering if there are any other knobs out there that fit but may be more 'round' or somehow feel sleeker than the stock T.

Thanks!

I wonder how hard it would be to swap the drive by wire. I love that in mine. A huge selling point for me, was this. The standard T grip looks awefuk. Ruins the center console in my eyes

Originally I was looking at the GT1 but the shifter, screen in the gauge cluster, and infotainment screen upgrades in the GT2 were too hard to look past.

Yup. The GT2 is the trim level to go with. The small changes make a massive difference, and certainly warranted the added cost. I looked at a loaded GT1 and just felt lacking in some areas.

Ive had both now, and I think I rather like the t-handle shifter better between the two.

I knew my budget, and was dead set on the GT1. Then, I test drove the GT2. Never should have done that. Now I have GT2 envy...

Either way, I love my GT1 and am still ecstatic with my decision.

I would love to swap out the "T" shift knob, too, though. Tracking this post...

The 2019 GT2 doesn't offer enough over the GT1 to be worth it IMHO, other than a more attractive shift knob :-)

There have to be 'sleeker' options out there that are a swap, I need to check with Kia specialists and see what's available with the 'side' button. Though on my S4 I switched from the clunky side button stock knob to a round, front button on the DSG with relatively little effort, wonder if that's possible on the Stinger!

So is there anyway to change the gt1 shifter to another one?

There is not without a commitment of large funds . Wayyyy to many parts involved. SBW has an electronic motor on top of the transmission, entirely different setup.

For me this is less about the entire shift mechanism verus the knob itself. I'd bet that another Kia knob with the button on the side would fit and still work the mechanism, I just haven't seen one I want to try .

Apparently the knob is just held on by friction, so some solid efdoef pulling upward will release it .

Yea, this is what I want, not to change the function of shifter but just the look.

I just want to change the shifter Knob, not the mechanism. That being said, is it possible?

I guess I'm one of the few that like the t-handle better than the FBW shifter.
Count me in. The instant I saw the "T" handle I said, "Ah". Seems old school, like the three round air vents in the dash. I especially like the manual gate feature that comes with it. Bumping the "T" to upshift, pulling back on it to downshift. Very natural, with your arm resting on that center console lid driving with one hand: I do that sometimes.

I spent a little more time looking at it, it *might* be doable. I'm really not sure. Somebody would need to look at the two on a lift and look around, make sure the motors are correct. Seems like the shift by cable as a similar actuator on the side. I'm not entirely sure though. Photo's attached of the two units.

I'm also not 100% certain these drawings are accurate down to the individual parts. KMA is known to sorta, half ass it at times

Minus the shifter I was under the impression that infotainment and gauge cluster were the same in the GT1 and GT2... difference being the GT not the GT1. Are you sure?

You're right, I didn't know that when I posted originally. GT1/2 are different than GT...0(? lol)

I like the heads up display a lot though

The only thing a kinda sorta wish I had is the HUD... I wonder if you could swap the assembly into a GT1... I “think” the projection area is there but plugged.
