RWD Stinger GT 0-100 km/h time confirmed

very interesting but i love the info. i thought i saw on google the xdrive was somehow slower to 60 at 4.9 seconds but that could be a bad source. since i have no personal interest in the awd cars i make my comparisons based on rwd estimates and data. to me its not fair to compare a rwd 340 or stinger to a strictly awd audi. but this is fun back and forth banter. if the stinger gt is getting to 62 in 4.9 seconds id expect the 1/4 mile to be somewhere between 13 flat and 13.4 seconds. only time will tell. once we get more results from magazine tests, we can make better comparisons. i cant wait

Car and Driver only tested 6-speed manual RWD and AWD 340i models. They were very close. The xDrive was slower in some of the tests. But that could just be test variability more than anything else.

To compare "like for like" we would need test results for the RWD, 8-speed model.

I will also add we don't know if the AWD Stinger GT will be slower or faster than the RWD model. Most of the time AWD improves straight line performance. So fingers crossed. I have personal interest in whatever the fastest model is and it usually ends up being the AWD model (re: 340i xDrive auto) in most cases. ;)

for a lil bit more fun we could add the v6 model of the ats and cts too.
The twin turbo v6 Cadillac CTS might be a good comparison.

The Stinger is kind of a "tweener". Its larger than the 3-series (and its competitors), so in turn it should be slightly slower. It is not as big as the 5-series*, so it should faster. I think that is exactly where we will end up.

*excluding the turbo V8 models

Edit: ....and I am wrong.........I suspect it will be slower than both....Darn it!

2017 BMW 540i xDrive 3.0T (335/332) 4171lbs.
0-60: 4.5 sec
0-110: 11 flat
1/4 Mile: 13.1 @ 108 mph

But it should be $32 grand cheaper

With less that 5,000 I'm sure we could find a good kit to boost the HP to more than 400 and we will beat BMW an Cadillac and still be under their price range !!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

i think 400whp could be had with a tune and maybe some bolt ons. most of these cars run a small amount of boost to be conservative. a flash tune with more boost should bring big gains

Damn, the 540i is quick! No way on planet Earth it has only 335hp/332tq. They are seriously under-rating that car. My guess is 400hp at the crank.

Absolutely! I'm sure there will be 80-100hp flash tunes available...

Yeah, easily...

BMW is just getting silly with these engine ratings at this point. The lighter Cadillac CTS V-Sport with 420/430 produces the same acceleration numbers. The new M550i xDrive is going to be crazy fast.

It depends on how much Kia left on the table when they tuned the engine. Looking at other twin turbo 6-cylinder engines on the market.
  • 2.7 Ecoboost: +54 WHP / +71 WTQ with flash tune only
  • 3.0 Ecoboost: +53 WHP / +26 WTQ with flash tune only
Even with 3 liters at 400/400 there was still room for improvement. The Kia tuners also have 0.3 more liters of displacement to "help out" ;)

IMHO I feel Kia would have to make some engineering mistakes to prohibit the drivetrain from handling heaps of power. Remember the 2.0 liter DTMs making 1,000 hp? I'd be surprised if we couldn't squeeze out at least 500 hp from the 3.3 without having to open up the motor. Then some forged rods and pistons will allow us to make the sky the limit.

Concerning BMW, that is very impressive for the 540i 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. The current M5 runs to 60 mph one tenth of a second faster and the M550i is supposed to run to 60 mph in 4 seconds flat. It makes me wonder what the next M5 will offer. These numbers aren't exactly amazing for the day and age and I imagine that's why BMW made a statement a few years ago something like "BMW isn't all about straight line performance" because if I'm not mistaken Mercedes AMG cars are much faster.

I think we will find the kia stinger also plans to not just be about this either. In fact they have said this many times over. With the sectable drive modes / suspension, I expect it to handle much better than most would expect. Most drivers will never push it's limits but because the "bones" are there the drive will be so much more enjoyable every other time, this is what look foward to also. Being quick, not necessarily fast or fastest, is definitely helpful and adds to the fun.

I am not sure about the torque limits for the transmission, drivetrain, etc. I guess we will find out if people decide to turn up the wick. I am also not sure what type of aftermarket support we will see. Crossing my fingers this car (and the G80 Sport) sell well and said owners start opening up their wallets for additional mods.

BMW's power ratings and "estimated" 0-60 times are all complete nonsense. The Current M5 goes 0-60 in 3.7 sec, not 4.4. And it runs the 1/4 mile in 11.9@120mph+. The BMW 0-100 km/h time estimate for the M550i xDrive is 4.0 seconds. So that should put the estimated 0-60 time in 3.8-3.9 range. But more importantly it will likely come in mid-3's at least when someone tests it. The current E63 AMG S is AWD so its a few tenths faster in all of the performance measures over the BMW. Its not "much" faster. The next M5 will also be AWD and likely be faster than the E63...on and on we go....
I do think these times are pretty amazing for this day and age considering the 707hp Hellcat goes 0-60 in 3.6 sec and runs the 1/4 mile in 11.7@126mph.
