Is there a tuning community for Kia? Coming from Audi and BMW the forums are abundant with information. Will people really take this car to the tracks? It just seems kinda of large for for competing. Lol but that's a world I know nothing about. The younger guys in the office want me to take my bimmer to the tracks, but pride and lack of skill keep me from doing so lol.

i don't know of any tuner-specific communities but there are lots of tunes available for the 2.0t cars like the kia optima and hyundai sonata. so there will be options for this 3.3tt as well. especially considering the genesis g80 and g90 using the same engine setup already have tuners working on various upgrades, including bigger turbos. i'm sure it's only a matter of time before a few good tuners find this site and start talking about their plans. just an fyi there are 600hp 4cyl optimas on the road.

do i see a launch to 60 at 4.7 seconds?! i think so!!!

Yes, there is a tuning community for Hyundai / Kia. The 1.6T and 2.0T have both piggyback units and full ECU reflash tunes available from multiple sources. The larger companies are based in Korea and have branches in the US. I suspect they will soon branch out the 3.3T with it being offered in more "enthusiast targeted" vehicles (G80 Sport and the Stinger GT). Depending on how similar the 2.0T used in the base Stinger is compared to the one we see in the Sonata, Optima, etc. there may be a tuning solution available rather quickly.

If I had to venture a guess I would say the vast majority of people that mod their cars DON'T take them to a track.

impressive. im curious to see how the g80 sport compares with the same engine. notice the new badge in those pics?

id expect the aftermarket to grow for both the 3.3tt and the 2.0t over time. like mentioned the 1.6t and 2.0t of hyundai and kia have their aftermarkets already. dont forget the genesis coupe has had mods for years now for both the 2.0t and 3.8 v6. also the genesis sedans with the 3.8 v6 and 4.6/5.0 v8. id say within two years of releasing the g80 sport and stinger gt there will be boltons for performance and suspension upgrades as well as ecu flash tunes

I do too! Stock, right off the showroom floor, with no tune, based on the confirmed 0-100 km/h time. :D:D:D

It will be 500+ lbs heavier. So....
  • slower
  • worse fuel economy
  • nicer interior
  • more space

there aren't many cars on the road that can embarrass the stinger gt! we have a car here that can play in the same arena as some pretty well established cars. i don't know if i should call them fast these days so i'll say quick. The 340i is pretty damn quick for a non high performance sport car and you're not going to embarrass a stinger in one.

it will embarrass the 335/340 is350/gs350/rc350. pretty much all v6 non-amg mercedes and non s/rs audi depending on the model

the is350 is a turd. i don't know anything about the rc350. the stinger should be able to walk a 335i pretty easily but i'm pretty sure the 340i is surprisingly quick. nothing that a light ecu tune or probably intake and exhaust couldn't fix.

they all have the same 306-311 hp 3.5 v6. also, id expect this car to beat the older dodge rt cars as well. they all have between 360-385hp and weigh about 4000lbs

Thanks for tuning info. Stock seems like it will get the job done. I would consider an ecu tune, if it would help increase gas mileage.

A fairer comparison will be the new G70 which will also have the same engine. and the Stinger and sit on the same platform. I think the Stinger will be a it longer, or that maybe the other way around lol. The one thing that I like more about the Stinger over the G70 is the sportback/storage area. Other than that the G70 will have a nice look of its own, based on what I've seen so far.

It is not going to beat the Mercedes C43, Audi S4, S5 Sportback, BMW 340i, 440i, Infiniti Q50 Red Sport et al.

But I think it will be close. So its not going to get embarrassed by any of the cars I mentioned.

Full M, AMG or RS cars are a whole different animal.

i mostly agree with you which is why i specified non amg and non s/rs. and a 365hp stinger isnt gonna compete with a 400hp red sport, obviously. where i dont agree is with the 340/440. in a straight line they will be close off the hit but id expect the stinger gt to pull away on the top end with the extra 45hp. from just about any roll, the stinger should have the edge

and i think it might be able to hang with an s3 after the first 60ft. probably pull in away in the top end as well

the lexus is350 is just heavy or something. on paper it should be pretty quick but it's real not that impressive in the real world.

yes, this kia is going to embarrass those older dodge performance cars you mentioned. pretty easily.

as for the 340i, it's very underrated and is about a half second faster to 60 believe it or not. it's a pretty legit car.

i guess customer results have been better than the 4.8 second run to 60mph i saw on google for the 340i. makes sense since often times, good drivers on well prepped tracks with great weather can get faster times than magazine tests.

The 340/440 and the S4/S5 are direct competitors so the S cars have to be taken into consideration. If the Stinger competes with the 340i then it competes with the S4 as well. As it does with the Merc C43 (its is not a full AMG car, more like an Audi S car). The Stinger GT 3.3T is not competing against the C300, 330i, etc. That is what the base 2.0T Stinger is for.

The BMW 340i is making 320 hp...............at the wheels.

The Audi S3 is a 0-60: 4.6 sec / 1/4 Mile: 13.3 @ 104 car. Stock for Stock, it will be really, really close. The Stinger should trap higher with more hp, so maybe a race to 140+ mph the Stinger wins.

Nope, not great drivers on a good track or anything of the like. That 4.8 sec time is from a RWD manual 340i. The 8-speed auto xDrive version is MUCH faster and I hate to say this, but it will likely smoke the Stinger GT.

Try 0-60: 4.1 sec.*
1/4 Mile: 12.7 @ 108.3 MPH

The Stinger GT is going to be "almost" as fast as the Germans for way less money.

*I used the 1-ft of roll out time as that is how every magazine tests.

very interesting but i love the info. i thought i saw on google the xdrive was somehow slower to 60 at 4.9 seconds but that could be a bad source. since i have no personal interest in the awd cars i make my comparisons based on rwd estimates and data. to me its not fair to compare a rwd 340 or stinger to a strictly awd audi. but this is fun back and forth banter. if the stinger gt is getting to 62 in 4.9 seconds id expect the 1/4 mile to be somewhere between 13 flat and 13.4 seconds. only time will tell. once we get more results from magazine tests, we can make better comparisons. i cant wait
