3.3TT Robby's Big Turbo Stinger Build

I can chime in with an easy example of bigger turbo gains.

Have you (anyone) noticed about 4500 or 5000 rpm WOT the stinger stops pushing as hard? Thats the small factory turbos 'flaming out' they have pushed all the air the housing will allow.

Bigger housing means larger range of boost but if you get to big then you sacrifice the low end 'boost lag' for the advantage of more push 4k-7k which is more beneficial.

If this was not helpfull drop a rainbow!

That is helpful for sure. I mean from last post the gains difference between the Pure Turbos and the Xcargot turbos.

The upgraded Pure Turbos brand is like $$3.5-$4k (SSR Performance price) that’s a big difference. What is the value you get with the $8k+ difference in price? Curious. Thx.
Pure Turbos are $6000 with turbo cores. I see a few problems with them, and stuffed turbos in general. One, being sold without a proper tuning solution. Two, many companies tried to tune it, and I haven't seen any solid results(dyno and 1/4 mile trap speed) in the state side. There are a few guys who got the pure turbos done, but most of them parted out due to lacking results. Three, stuffed turbos reliability wise isn't so great. I've seen a few people that have gone through blown stuffed turbos. Apparently those turbo shafts are very small, and the added weight of the new compressor wheel is what's causing premature failures, so it requires custom shafts made to be more reliable. Turbokits.com made hybrid turbos & the same thing happened, and they are looking to upgrade it. They've been working with Lap3 for a few years, and I believe it will be available sometime this year. There's a Motec tuned Stinger with pure turbos in Russia, and its 1/4 mile trap speed is only 126mph. That's only a few more mph over stock turbos, and I want 130mph+ trap speed. Those are the reasons why I didn't go with hybrid turbos and ended up purchasing the Xcargot turbo kit from Lap3.

Great answer. Thank you

I don't know why: but I want to watch this for a while. He's on, just not saying anything here.

Kabooom.

It’s memorial day weekend. RIP engine. Thanks for your service.

Ah looking now and the flanges look goofy. So from your second part with the pictures is this one of the newfangled setups where the exhaust manifolds are cast into the head or something? So you can just unbolt and bolt up like a new manifold with a standard t3 flange?

That combined with your statement about them being performance oem brand turbos would make a lot of sense then.
I didn't see anyone reply to you, but yes the Stinger engine doesn't have exhaust manifolds the exhaust passages are integrated into the heads.

Could be easy to make a pipe to do the job. But im no fab guy.

[PART 3] Installing the LAP3 XCargot XT26 Turbo Kit
The turbo manifolds, housings, and downpipes are ceramic coated & wrapped.
The Tial wastegates are used for the build, and new oil lines & drain lines are installed as well.
I also painted the timing cover to black while the motor was out.
Here are photos of what the final assembly looks like before putting the motor & transmission back in the car.
Pictures are worth more than words, so... Enjoy! :)

I haven't had much time to write a post. The build was finished within a few days since the motor was out.
I'll work on posting Part 3 soon. If anyone wants to catch up, you can check out my Instagram page in a meantime @ Big_Turbo_Stinger
Pictures look good! I don't have an insta but will get someone who does so I can periodically lurk on your page.
Looking forward to the quality and performance updates If any in the future.

Wow, very impressive build. Good for you stepping up to the plate. I’m sure it wasn’t cheap.

“Big Turbo Stinger” …am I last person to realize how this name is 18+

Funny - started a thread the other week asking for advice on my own build at the shop and just realized I was accidentally hijacking this thread bc clearly I’m not the OP!
