Road/tire noise.

Anyone know of a table or something that shows which steering, AWD (where applicable), transmission/engine, exhaust mode settings correspond to which Drive Modes? I'm starting to wonder if what I'm hearing as road/tire/wind noise is really coming from the speakers for noise cancellation.

I think what they're trying to say there is that noise cancellation technology allows them to use fewer parts / less material to minimize vibrations in the structure of the car thereby saving weight and increasing fuel economy. It's a bit of a stretch, but that's what the marketing team at Kia is going for there.

Correct. If they can achieve the same cabin noise levels with 1 pound of electronics that they achieve with 100 pound of noise isolation material, they can reduce the car weight by 99 pounds which will translate into fuel savings. And faster speeds.

LOL. Just turn the stereo off and shut up. Noise cancellation achieved! Why did they lump the stereo system into "ambient noise"? It isn't as if Creedence Clearwater Revival is as unavoidable as tire noise.

On topic, I also have just purchased a GT awd with 18" wheels and have the same exact rhythmic pulsating vibration at highway speeds. Interestingly the noise and vibration is worse on brand new smooth-as-glass pavement! I just spent 2 days at 2 different dealerships sorting out the tire balancing with the first dealer claiming a tire imperfection in the front drivers side tire. The second dealer (where I purchased the car) pulled all the weights and rebalanced all 4 tires and told me to come back if I was unsatisfied. The vibration is ALMOST gone but I am so tuned in to the frequency that I can still hear it and feel it haunting me so subtly that I feel crazy for letting it bother me and hope it fades away completely now that they are "perfectly balanced." in the meantime the bass in the factory sound system is so good that when the vibration makes me want to drive it off a cliff, I can turn up some trap edm and forget about it until the pause between songs. Lol

@Dave Bergantzel that mirrors my earlier comment about being "hypersensitive" to noise and vibration. And even without being hypersensitive anyone can be made that way by a problem and dealing with it over an extended period of time. The problem can be knocked back to such a minor level that, had we been introduced to the noise/vibration as it is now, at the outset, we'd never have noticed it in the first place. But NOW we are leary and on the watch for the slightest return of the problem. We manufacture our own problem out of almost nothing. Over time, with it no longer worsening, we get over it and even forget about it. (I had this happen with a brand new bike last year; a defective tube thumping around and around; I talked about the analogy in an earlier post.)

I can't deny being hyper sensitive to the harmonics of this specific vibration, but the vibration is definitely undeniably there. I can't even say that it's been reduced to a level that I wouldn't notice it if I didn't know it was there, but I honestly hope it does fade away rather than sticking around or getting worse .

I decided to spend some time with a Stinger 2.0 Premium to really see if it was really louder than my 2017 Optima Hybrid. The dealership I went to had newly paved roads and it sounded much like my hybrid on those roads. On highway up to 80, no wind noise to speak of, but getting off on an exit with bad roads, the noise level was really pronounced. The noise was coming from the road, the tires were the culprit. Although, there were no vibrations to speak of. For most of the ride, I was like, I don’t really need the 3.3T, this is plenty power and the handling was great on corners. When we got on the bad roads, my wife who was in agreement throughout the drive shook her head and said, nope, get the GT, it’s quieter.

Depending on the roads where you live, the 2.0T or GTs with 18” Bridgestone tires might be perfectly fine or noisy and annoying. That would be the first thing to go if I get those on my car. It detracts from what is a great car.

I swapped out the awful Bridgestone tires a couple of weeks after I got my Stinger. Went with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires and never looked back...

Those Michelins are known to be pretty good UHPAS tires. Continentals also makes some good tires but they also have ones that are ok. I know they used the 18's for fuel economy but I think based on the performance specs, they should use UHPAS tires and not GT tires.

After driving another 100 miles, my immediate conclusion is this has to be tread harmonics on the 18" Potenzas included with the Awd all weather package. Re-rebalancing has lessened but not resolved the rhythmic pulsations that are invading my cabin at highway speeds. This might be an acceptable conversation to be having if we were referring to my 90s Era Jeep Cherokee with mud terrain tires! I like my Stinger and hate that it's developed a black eye of sorts, but those tires sing directly into the chassis like an opera singer singing into an empty wine glass! Understand that Kia may have made a few compromises on comfort to bring us this level of performance but I do feel like the nerfed top speed on the awd was enough of a compromise and having to deal with tire harmonics on top of that is just another poke in the eye. At this point I just hope replacement tires will fix the issue when I have a few hundred extra dollars to swap them.

I’m going to guess their normal choice of Korean tire manufacturers didn’t have anything they considered good enough for this car, which is why they chose this version of the Bridgestones. I can understand for the 2.0T but for the GTs, they should have gone with Pirelli or Continental and go with a UHP AS tire heck use the Michelin PS AS 3+!

Has anyone tried the Yokohama Advan A/S ? Significantly cheaper than an A/S 3+ ... (had A/S 3's on my previous Infiniti Q50 big improvement over the runflats but they weren't the most comfortable tire for NY NJ) A friend of mine who works as a Acura / Honda Tech says Yokohama's are really good

Considering doing the swap even tho my cars only a lease the noise and comfort suffering from the tires shouldn't happen as bad.

Also does anyone know if any tire installers by relatively new tires ? (Under2k miles) for anywhere near a decent price 200-300 for 4?
