Reddit being reddit

PS I refuse to read Reddit. It is the modern reincarnation of news groups, and the signal to noise ratio is, if anything, worse.

It's fun most of the times.

It's like Amazon reviews, where a oil review is based on the box it got delivered in was broken but the seller fixed it, 5 stars. It took 2 weeks to ship, 2 stars. And no one knows even if they ordered the right viscosity.

There few smart guys out there, but very few and unless you are an expert of the topic, you wouldn't know.

Saw this on reddit

Confession: I traded my Stinger GT2 for a Toyota Avalon : cars

Looks like common public still has same old opinion about the car.

Opinions are like a holes, everyone has one and everyone's stinks (same as ours).

I don’t see anything in that thread that I don’t see on this forum.

Paint issues take too long to fix
Dealerships being terrible
Rattles

He even says at the end, he values quality and dealer service over performance. That’s not a terrible opinion.

I read this and it seems most of the ire is due to bad dealership and Kia customer service practices. They do seem to be in a hard spot in that they are starting to sell a lot of more premium cars and they seem to be having a hard time with the change. I gotta say, this is my third Kia and the dealership experience is the part that needs to be improved the most.

I agree with you. I didn't see anything out of line either. I read a few of the comments and they are justified, and the same here.

Also agree with the article. To each his own. However, I would never buy any Lexus or Toyota product with that fugly front end grille.

Yes, the main post and most comments are not out of the line. I completely agree that most Kia dealership sucks.

I guess I got focused on negative comments.

Anyone that can go from a Stinger GT to an Avalon and be happy about it won't be able to appreciate the performance of the Stinger. Nothing wrong with that of course, just a different kind of owner.

It confuses me why people don't simply go to another dealer if their's is giving them a bad experience. People do know they don't have to get serviced by the dealer they bought their car from, right?

Honestly, that dealer expierence is everywhere.
Kia has a long way to go yet. They have some awesome premium vehicles now, stinger, telluride, but they dont have the premium customer service at the dealership to match, they still act like an economy car dealership. And as long as that is the case, they will never hope to be able to keep the kind of customer they are trying to attract with these vehicles. Hopefully that can change. I am really hoping to see this car become an iconic classic.

On a seperate note though, I can relate to that guy. Just like he is getting ribbed for being young and buying a avalon, I got ribbed for being young and buying this car

Edit:spelling and grammar

That's not always an option. Where I currently live I have 4 or 5 Kia dealerships within a 45 minute drive so options are plenty.

The place that I lived when I bought my Stinger had 1 dealership within a 1 hour drive. That 1 dealership was merged with a Mazda dealership and it was absolutely horrible. There aren't a lot of people that are willing/able (especially if a car is undriveable and needs warranty repair) to travel over an hour to get their car serviced so they have to make due with what's available.

Go look at total sales for the stinger and telluride, they are not driving the Kia brand right now. Still far more Optimas, Fortes and Souls driving through the service drive.

Telluride will start catching up. Stinger sells will mostly stay similar.

Fair point @DaJackson
I just think that those numbers will have a hard time climbing till the dealership expierence catches up

It will be a *long* time for Kia to get out of their cheapest cars carrying the brand, but you can't deny that the Stinger and Telluride sales numbers are very impressive for what Kia is trying to do.

On-topic, that reddit thread actually seems pretty tame. No one really bashing Kia, everyone talking about their own (good and bad) dealer experiences.

This is the post that hits the mark the most:

I think the lesson to take away is the dealership and the people at it is just as important as the car itself to the overall enjoyment.

I completely agree, I have purchased several new vehicles over the years. I have taken some of them in for warranty work with no issues. Now with my new purchase that will be one week old to me tomorrow i am sadden by my dealership interaction thus far.

During the purchase they where obviously great and responsive. During the actual transaction I was a little irritated at them as they agreed to a price and then reneged on that price. They blamed it on the fact that the way I was going to finance it they could not provide a $2750 rebate. Well sorry we never spoke that this price was only good if I took a 5-9% interest rate, well that was not going to happen when I could get 0-.9%. I moved on from there and purchased the vehicle as I do like it. During the purchase I pointed out that there was a paint issue at the front driver side headlight. They said they are going to fix it and we set up an appointment for today. Well yesterday I go to drop off the car and get a loaner as correcting a paint issue would take a while. Well when I went to drop it of their corporate policy is they do not provide a loaner, this will be my first time a dealership would not provide a car if the warranty work would take some time. Now I understand if it was a 2 hour job that there would not be a loaner. So I will have to go back on another Friday when I can sit with the car for a little while they do the repair.

Moving on to the next issue, the nav map is out of rev at the time of purchase. During the deal the dealership said they would get it updated at the same time as the paint, great that is just fine. Again yesterday talking with service and salesman, service said they could not do anything about it. Service moved me to kia customer relations which then moved me UVO customer support. UVO was great and got the problem resolved in a 5 min phone call and an photo showing the map was out of rev.

I hope that further interaction with them gets better, but at this time I am not holding my breath. Bad part about the issue is this dealership owns the closest three Kia dealerships. Again I hope this was just a little fluke and the dealership experience is much better after this.

There are two Kia dealerships here in Birmingham that are owned by the same entity and their service departments are much different. If you have problems with service at yours, try the others. What you've been through so far sounds like pretty typical dealership stuff to me though.

Never trust their word. If it isn't included on the "you owe/we owe" form you should assume everything they're promising you is a lie.

The Stinger is meant to boost brand perception and isn't really meant to be a sales superstar. It just has to exist, like the Civic Type-R, and it'll boost sales of other models.

The Telluride, on the other hand, is not a halo car and should be selling in large quantities.
