My car was broken into tonight, rear left quarter window, pulled down the rear seat to fish in the trunk, but there was nothing to take. Anyone had to have theirs replaced and has an estimate? My $500 comprehensive deductible makes me feel like it wouldn't be worth filing a claim, but I thought I would ask.

Sorry to hear. Have you tried a windscreen replacement company?

I would be devastated like I am sure you must be, maybe they wanted to steal any contents inside, but they also picked on the hottest and rarest car in the street, I'm surprised they didn't scratch your paintwork on purpose, just for fun.:(

I would think that the window can be replaced well below the $500 deductible ...........sorry to see that ! good luck

It happened on a Saturday night so I won't be able to get auto glass companies on the phone until Monday, that's why I thought I'd ask here in the meantime.

It sucks. I've only had the car for 2 weeks, and I already had to get a chip in the windshield from a rock on the road repaired.

They hit multiple cars on the same lot indiscriminately. 5 or 6 cars in a row, all had rear quarter glass broken. I had no valuables in the cabin or trunk, in sight or otherwise, but they wanted to fish in the trunk, and they did.

It really sucks, but I'm trying to keep my cool, and remind myself I can afford to get the glass replaced and move on.

Thanks for all the kind responses.

Obnoxious. Hopefully you can get it repaired easily and that someone had cameras to catch the people.

Apparently some auto glass places are open Sunday. First one to get back to me looked up the VIN and said car is too new and there's no aftermarket glass parts yet, so it would have to be a dealer part, and that he'll let me know tomorrow when Parts departments open again.

Sounds like it'll be more expensive than I hoped. Sigh.

$340 with safelite

A quick quote on the Safelite website gave me $440 for my zip code, before tax. Well, damn. I'll wait to hear back from local, well-reputed auto glass shops tomorrow, but this is exasperating.

Worst case scenario, AVOIDED! No other damage to your beautiful machine!! So glad to hear it was just the smallest glass. And yes, $500 deductible isn't going to make this worth claiming even if it is a bit over $500; which I am guessing will be the case going through the dealer.

Get a police report filed.
Might be able to get the property owner to cough up for lack of security since multiple cars got hit.

Might also be able to go after the bastards if caught (I’d go after their parents too if it were me).

Regardless of political opinions, criminals get off too easy for this stuff. Like the money just doesn’t matter we have to fork out. They need to have their fn hands cut off. You wouldn’t have repeat offenders.

Problem solved.

True. Always good to maintain perspective.

Problem solved.
Handless beggars doesn't sound like "problem solved" to me. It didn't work in Old World Europe. It doesn't work in benighted countries today. And it wouldn't work for us either.

Update on the situation:

Started getting estimates back this morning. The first two came back with a 2 week and ~1.5 week wait respectively, saying they need to special order the part through KIA because no dealers in the area have it in stock. If I didn't have a closed private garage, this would suck big time. Estimates were around $325.

Then the company that fixed my windshield chip (sigh) last week, Paramount Auto Glass in Berkeley, got back to me that they can overnight the part from KIA as long as I'm willing to prepay, and that it should be here tomorrow. I called the owner and mentioned that the other auto glass companies were giving me 2 week wait estimates, and he said that he would call KIA back and confirm with them that they can actually overnight the part and that they're not going to take two weeks. He called me back a few minutes later and said that KIA told him that yes, overnight is an option, and that worst-case it would get here within a week, so by Friday EOB. The estimate was $268 parts and labor before tax ($292 total charged). So I went with them, given that I was happy with the job they did last week and their amazing reviews on Yelp.

Now, keeping my fingers crossed the part gets here sooner than later. I'd love to get this fixed and behind me as soon as possible.

Good news for a bad situation..

In a week you'll forget it even happened , great news !!
